Title: Sad subtitles at Kat's death
Post by: Scatcycle on November 18, 2010, 03:00:34
If you play with subtitles at Kat's death, once it goes all black you can see subtitles, but you cannot hear anything but the music. The subtitles say something along the lines of : "Close the doors!" "It's going to be okay." But there is much more. Is this just to emphasize the damage the Covenant is dealing? Because it sure saddened me to see those subtitles. They seem like civilians, but I don't know why they would be in one of those buildings.

So the point of this, is that maybe there is something hidden in these subtitles. Or it's just to emphasize the sadness of Reach. If it's the latter, it truly worked. I definitely felt sad when I saw those words.

If you think it's the latter, describe how it makes you feel. If you haven't seen this, go play New Alexandria with subtitles on!

I have never liked subtitles.

Since Noble Team is going through a set of doors at the end of the cutscene, and you even see Kat's foot brush against it as it closes, it could simply be referring to that.

It's more than that. It is a lot of lines, I can get them over this weekend. It goes on for something around 15 seconds.

Why didn't you like subtitles? The only reason I don't like subtitles is because it diverts your eyes from what you really want to see. But I hate not being able to hear whats being said, so I always have em on.

Its civi's. if you have surround sound set up and all that good stuff you can here em in the background...

Im not for the hidden stuff idea, but it definately brings a bit of realism to the setting.

Oh, then that means there probably isn't any hidden stuff. I was just wondering why we couldn't hear them. Now I know.
Thanks Kenji!

But that brings up the topic... what are civis doing in a glassing zone?

Or do the ONI operatives count as civilians?

Oh Yeah, I forgot to mention this. It might just be a coincidence, but this is exactly

SPOILARZ!!!!!1111!11!!one!!!!!eleven!1!!!!

Only read if you have beaten Half Life 2 episode 2 or don't care about it:

This is exactly what happened at the end of episode two. Alyx's dad dies, and the screen goes black but you can still hear her whimpering and mourning over her dead father.

That's what happens when Kat dies. Coincidence or reference?

Or is it Bungie stealing genius ideas from other companys?

dunno about that, but just because your being invaded by aliens doesnt mean that EVERYONE evacuated...

There is always going to be that hick still in his house with all his guns yelling about something. I bet the civis didnt know about glassing though... bad time to find out.

P.S. Half Life driving mechanics = Balding Kenji. Damn I hated driving stuff in that game.

On the topic of half life, your second sentence reminds me of Father (gabriel?) who lives in Ravenholme, the zombie infested town.

Are you kidding? I LOVE the driving in Half Life! I hate getting stuck though... and completely missing the jump in episode 2. I'm pretty sure I went off the jump correct, but I hit some railing at the bottom and got the car stuck. Those boxes should have magnets on them ;)!

I'm just after the bridge in Half Life 2. I got hit by the train a couple of times for the fun of it :)

ugh! really? I have nightmares about those driving mechanics! Once I played Halo: CE I can hardly drive in any game. Hell, I can hardly drive in halo! I loved the first person aspect in Half-Life though. Kinda wish they had first person when you were in shotgun though (like in CE).

I LOVE 1st-person driving! That's the one thing I've never liked about halo.  I played Bad Company, and I think I wet myself from excitement, because aside from that I've only had 1st-person vehicles on Star Wars Battlefront (the first one, at that!).

I hate starwars, but battlefront was just epic. I loved the huge battle field feel. Like you were just a small part in this huge thing. I love those kinda games.

A lot of my threads are getting derailed... ;)

So I copied most of the subtitles down, and then put them in a word document, but of course the storm cuts my power so I lose it.

But I remember some of them, which really intrigue me:
(these probably won't be exact)

"Close the doors!" "It's coming! No!" "Please no! Please!"

So it sounds like some covenant got in? Or are they afraid of the spartans? Getting the real stuff now.

I LOVE derailed threads though!!

Back on track, I heard a little bit of the dialogue when I played through it with scat. And if I could hear it on my eighteen-year-old POS excuse for a tv without it even turned up past half, it's there. Trust me. If you can't hear it, you just need to clean out those ears :P

Are you sure your brain wasn't implementing the sound into your head? :P

I'm going to go check the sound settings on my tv....

BTW: The words changed. There was no (correct me if I'm wrong) "It's coming!". I saw that subtitle a different time I played, but not this time. It could be difficulty or Co-op that changes it.

I didn't have any preconceptions about what it would sound like.  I heard a man's voice, and it wasn't anyone from Noble.  It was only a word or two, and if I was imagining it I'm pretty sure I would have thought I'd heard more.
