Destiny Pre-Release Discussion / Re: Destiny at E3 2013
« on: June 11, 2013, 04:23:38 »
I was very, very impressed.  It's a beautiful looking world.

When I was very young, I was given the "Terran Trade Authority" books by Stewart Cowley.  I spent hours flipping through them and looking at all of the spectacular ships... mystified by the illustrated "spacewrecks" like these:

I do believe I read (or heard) once that Jason Jones had these books.  Maybe in a Staten interview on the old podcasts.  If so, perhaps the opening cinematic (shown during this Sony E3 presentation) was a reference to the images above (skeleton in an old wrecked car sitting in a field vs. skeleton in an old wrecked spacecraft sitting in a field).   The design of the ships and buildings in the Destiny world really reminds me of the artwork from these books.

Imppa, it was really cool watching that whole two-hour presentation with you over XBL Party Chat!  Scatters- totally cool that you dropped in as well.  It's already a fond memory!

P.S. Bungie has already made a new post about the reveal which includes links to a multimedia gallery of screenshots from the gameplay.

Aforementioned skeleton in car from today's E3 Trailer:

...and another great shot from the trailer

Destiny Pre-Release Discussion / Third-Person Community Spaces?
« on: June 11, 2013, 00:36:08 »
I am looking forward to more elaboration on the feature "...third-person community spaces where you can repair and rearm before going out on your next adventure."

(From this slideshow on Bungie.net)

Image:

Does this mean that the real-life community of fans will somehow be able to set up shop and sell their wares?  Does this mean with in-game currency or will the community be allowed to market their own content in-game via micro-transactions?

Because, well... that would be awesome.  And would take the whole forgehub thingy to a whole new level.

Or is all of that just fancy copy for "there will be NPCs selling you things?"

Nice follow-up, Imppa!  I grabbed your "Destiny Awaits" in-game screenshot from 2009 and added it to the Image Gallery:

Previous staff member Vic Deleon confirmed this Easter Egg last year via Twitter (2012.11.29 8:24:46 UTC).  Here is a post made the next day on fpsgeneral.com with more details:

Halo 4 General Discussion / Re: Halo 4 Glyphs
« on: January 29, 2013, 03:41:40 »
I'm hear to tell you:  it was really satisfying to finally beat the Raider Helmet Puzzle without any assistance!  Attached is a photo of Lil' Glider literally putting the pieces together with me on Jan 19th.  I had him go back and do the other two puzzles to complete the set.

Now on to Raider II... I've yet to spot an in-game glyph!  Has anyone else?

Two important points on entering the "Classified" codes:
  • If you enter an invalid code, you get a simple message telling you that nothing was unlocked, but if you enter the correct code while not meeting the stated criteria, you will get a different message.  This can be used to verify that you have the right code, even before you can meet the criteria to fully unlock the item.  I'm guessing this will work even if you don't yet own Halo 4.
  • If you are going after the terminals in Halo Anniversary to unlock the items in the first archive, know that you will get screwed out of your credit for unlocking a terminal if you are playing in someone else's hosted online multiplayer game.  The host will get credit.  You WILL get the achievements for reading the terminals, but you will not unlock the terminals for viewing in the "Extras" section- and even worse- will not pass the criteria when you enter the glyph code for the associated terminal in Classified.

I really like that Waypoint is restricting use of the terminal glyph codes to players who have actually found the terminals.  At the same time, I am really hating that I found all of my terminals as the client in a multiplayer game because now I have to go find them all again to get credit for them.  Argh.

As for the rest of the Classified archives...

I have only unlocked the first two items in the Requiem archive (Raider).  Anyone else figuring these out on their own?  I seem to be missing a lot of info, because I'm stumped on the third one (for the helmet).  Only have one glyph and an empty puzzle piece.  I think I have exhausted the tagged media items and am quite at a loss for where to look next.

I'm similarly held up on "Wiseguy", despite having five of the glyphs and knowing how to sequence them.

@NC:
Gherjsz was a test to make sure the forum was working for non-admins.  :)
The image I attached is part of one of those puzzles.  There is a "puzzle-piece" frame on the right, but only obvious to people who have been working on these puzzles.  I think you may be able to work on this even without even having Halo 4.

Halo 4 General Discussion / Didactula?

Really?  If he is so evolved, what's he doing with those canines?  Does he bound around the Halo ring on all fours, chomping down indexed Moa?

What an embarrassment to the truly evolved Forerunners who float.   Maybe that's the real reason ol' Libby pumped him full of hard light and sealed his butt up in a Shield World.  And why Moa are extinct on Earth.

Or. Are. They?

[Cue Hissing Vampire Moa]

Wonderful words, Imppa.  Rest assured you are not forgotten!

I've got to say... the internet has not done much justice to the whole Waypoint glyph code thing.  The best thing out there is a cheat sheet with the codes... which sucks.

I'm more like fvagelis over here who wants to figure it out on his own but was likewise thrown off by the lack of a definite "Section 3 NEWS" item on halowaypoint.com.

In my humble opinion, the community needs a clear "Hint Guide" to unlocking the Classified Archives, rather than a straight up cheat sheet.

Anyone interested?  Mods can use the batsignal if they wish.

PS: hope all is well out there.  We will have to stage a belated SGP Day before the end of the year.
PPS: gratz to Nightcrafter who found and decoded a hidden message I placed in an image years ago.   :o

That was a worthy post, Sep7ember.  I feel this forum returning to its roots...

I recommend using the calendar to schedule times for people to meet.  Don't wait for me!

And for a second time, I revive this thread, mostly to point out that the images seem to be broken.

Thank you for being persistent and pointing this out again, Nightcrafter.  All of the image links were to the old domain, so I updated the original post and the images are there now.

Thanks to some very friendly generosity some time ago, I received my own (unopened) ODST controller.  At some point I will have to scrutinize it more closely and compare to what we have already noted.

Perhaps the number was just a more obfuscated coding of the Bungie IP (as was seen on the Reach controller) and they dumbed things down the second time around.

It might not be a bad idea to simply ask them, since doing so got us a lot of helpful info regarding the missing BOB spawn on TotS.

BOBs / Re: Tip of the Spear BOB Hunt (MAJOR UPDATE)
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:00:53 »
Well, one way of trying to find a "bright side" to this issue is to consider that the community has a whole wealth of knowledge about this issue that they would not have had otherwise if we didn't persist in looking, and in questioning.

It is definitely a downer that the spawn appears to be bugged in some way.  It also means we can "move on" from this particular search, and simply report the facts (as LF has already done via another quality installment to his BOB video series.)

I'm currently of the mind that the BOBs ended up being relegated to daily challenge fodder, whether or not there were grander aspirations for them originally.

Maybe someday we'll get to hear a little more about Bungie's decision to include them, and what was truly intended.
