Theorizers / Re: Theorizing Guidelines - Food For Thought

Well put, CG:  it is truly important to be able to categorize your findings. Not to say that we are in a hurry, but minimizing the research concerning generic, just-for-fun Easter Eggs, and try to find our way to some unifying, grands scheme.

SGP Task Force: 7 / Re: J Banner 7
« on: September 09, 2013, 06:01:46 »
Aw man. AW MAN.
My brain hurts. This means we still have a multitude of ways to decode the J-Banners, and, gah, just shows once more how much can be done!

Before you invest any time reading the below wall of text, note that I have not yet found any obviously meaningful translations.  Gherjszed again, basically.  Nevertheless, I wanted to document the attempt.  I still feel that considering the banners as punch card data is worthwhile, as there are numerous historical punch card encoding methods.  I have by no means exhausted the possibilities here.

Are we talking about the different kind of punch cards listed on the wikipedia page, or just different encoding methods? I'd like to think that Bungie had some kind of logic in choosing the system for J-Banners. What could it be though? Do we have any methods that could be connected to Jotun, the Elephants or anything concerning ODST?

In any case, your work is awesome CG, and I thank you for it. Gjerzhed I'm not sure anymore what the right term is) or not, we might very well be one step closer to encoding them. :)

« on: September 09, 2013, 05:39:01 »
Wow! Awesome :D To find a link like this after all this time!

I remember seeing that "super code" before too, but for some reason it didn't even occur to me that it would be tha same as in glyphs! Hm.

Sadly, it doesn't seem like there's any way to translate it...:/ Excellent find anyways guys!

Report In! / Re: SGP: Secret detonator on CM:AS
« on: September 09, 2013, 05:34:15 »
I have returned after sometime away. Some of you know me as GT: Atarigen, DukeLehto7, and most recently as GT FistotheUnicorn. I also use a new username on B net, "Horseflesh. I remember this site from several years ago. Funny I remember signing up back then, but did find myself here. Maybe I did not. I have returned to share new information on ERR. Yes you heard me I know how to use ERR. I had great fun with ODST, and have great affection for BUNGIE. My present purpose here is to revisit ODST for still unfound content. I suspect this effort may be fruitful. I am looking forward to working with any still remaining users here. I specifically remember Impa, I am curious to see If he is still active.

Atarigen! Now THIS is a nostalgic. I'm honoured that you still remember me man, 'cause I remember you too: you were perhaps the most keen person involved in the ODST research back in Bnet. I remember how you did actually report Eggs no one had seen before (I still have no idea where that one doll you found is) and involve yourself in all kinds of ODST theorizing. Your achievements back then were quite admirable. :)

So I'm very glad you've found your way back here! Welcome!

What I will say is that an abridging ARG system was planned long ago. Connecting Halo worlds both new and old. I am hopeful that this system will help us find remaining ODST content. I am personally very excited to experience our new Destiny. Bungie hinted at well laid plans for Destiny in ODST. A relevant revisiting of ODST may intrigue us until Destiny's release. Sweet fruit should never be wasted.

I actually feel the same. Felt for some time now. Yeah. [NEW THREAD INCOMING CONCERNING SUBJECT]

Anyway, about me! Don't worry guys, even though I mightnot have been around here for sime time, I still plan to work on all these mysteries! I might have even time now, because, you see, I'm currentlyresiding in Australia on a Working Holiday. :D I'm going to go back home to sweet and oh so cold Finland already in december, but before that I have 4 months to spend here Down Under. For some reason, my tablet really didn't like the new site, and posting revealed to be a bit hard, but I'll manage. The hunt is still on! LLtSGP! :)

Halo 4 General Discussion / Re: Debating the Merit of Halo 4
« on: June 25, 2013, 21:05:40 »
Congratulations, Night!   And how are you faring, Imppa?

Haven't played any more yet, since I spent the weekend at my family's summer cottage. But I thought of playing some right now! :D I think maybe tomorrow. Today was, in the end, quite exhausting.
Or the day after tomorrow, since I've got a early shift the day after tomorrow, so I can't stay up too late tomorrow...

And what comes to online get-together, I suppose I am free any day, for now, except for the days I'm in the countryside or when I need sleep (the days before work). I just need to know at least a day in advance to know which night I have to stay up late!

Halo 4 General Discussion / Re: Debating the Merit of Halo 4

I'm only 2 levels in, and, well, it seems quite nice! Graphics look great, but it is true that the Warthog has the sounds of an RC car..-.- So far it's just different, not bad. I think. :P

52
Ah, eh, ahem, okay, let's try this then! :D

~

I wake up in my pod, alone. No response on radio, no sounds from the city, no anything. I'm quite sure the radio's busted, actually. My pistol and silenced SMG seem completely fine, though. No problem in my armor either.

But before I get to inspecting the pod itself, I hear something: footsteps, and high-pitched chatter. A pack of methane-breathing Grunts and a Brute leader are patrolling (assuming from the low-pitched growl I hear that ceases all chatter), and even though they aren't coming to my direction just yet, they soon will..If I were able to quickly open my pod door and dash to cover, I could possibly evade the Covenant patrol. But will I make it? Have to try, at least.

~

Is this good? :P

More than a bad adaptor, I think your problem just might be in your sound system's EQ. Or something.

Anyway, going to buy it today, I think! Or tomorrow. Or someday. >.> (nah, tomorrow at the least)

Wow. To think opinions could vary THIS much!

Well, I guess I could borrow it and try it out first...Then again, if the price has already come down, I might as well as buy it. We'll see!

Thanks for the opinions, and, uh, feel free to debate, but I feel, you might be missing each other's points...or something. Different viewpoints to the game, that's it!

It would be very interesting if they mean third party developers. Kind of like how they outsourced the last Reach map dlc, Bungie might mean that there will be place that a player can go to created and maintained by another studio, with missions and weaponry exclusive to that area. It would make the game extremely vibrant if each planet was made from a unique design perspective, and the individual studios could delve into the atmosphere/culture. It would be the difference of "I looted this gun of an alien on Venus" to "this weapon is [cultural significance/history] to aliens on Venus."

But wouldn't that make the game a bit fragmented? I mean, surely Bungie would oversee everything a third party would create for their game, but it isn't the same as Bungie doing all the things and making them fit the puzzle. Having third parties might even cause some weird competition...Like, I don't know, really differing environments? So differing you'd have problem to realise they're in the same game? (Though surely Bungie would check for things like that, too, but maybe you get the point..)

I don't know. I never played Halo 4, so I don't really know how much the same product can vary between different companies. :/ Or is that a faulty example?

56
I'd say they could definitely make it work if they stuck with one game. Take League of Legends, for example. It's a free game, but the producers have made millions. Because in the game you can buy skins. They don't make you more powerful or anything, they just look nice. And a lot of people buy them. Since Destiny is all about armor customization, perhaps they could add special "skins" as dlc. I'm sure that could keep their families fed for a while, especially because you get to show off your flair in events.

So microtransactions? I don't know...But if that's the way they take, so be it.

We came to the conclusion that since Bungie claims to want to keep the story in Destiny alive for the next ten years, it would be impractical for them to write those stories/events themselves.

I have to disagree on this point, Night.  Look at it this way:

2014: Destiny
2015: Destiny DLC
2016: More Destiny DLC
2017: Destiny 2
2018: Destiny 2 DLC
2019: More Destiny 2 DLC
2020: Destiny 3
2021: Destiny 3 DLC
2022: More Destiny 3 DLC
2023: Destiny ODST (just making sure you were paying attention)

They may also be looking to expand the world in the same way that WoW expands its world through expansions.  Instead of new planes or continents, it would be new planets and moons.  If you buy the expansion, you can travel there; if not, you get to see other players sporting the cool new items/races/ships/etc they found there.  This model has proven to work well in games like WoW and Borderlands, so why not in Destiny?

In any event, I expect that if they are planning to milk the IP for 10 years then they are planning to sell the new content written for that IP for 10 years.  That would be practical.

Oh yeah, right. Money. I actually didn't think it like that at all! >_<
That does seem practical. And now that I think about it, leaving the quality of the game solely on the hands of community is a little silly idea. Of course, factions still would always be there to spice things up (and hopefully not lame them down), but if Bungie is control of the 'unfolding', things will surely go smoother. (And money. Yeah.)

Thinking that the expansions/the longevity of the game will cost me money worries a bit, but on the other hand, they don't sell games that last 10 years for cheap. And there isn't any membership fee, which is good...Yeah. I'll see how it turns out :D

Destiny Pre-Release Discussion / Re: RFC: Destiny Factions
« on: June 11, 2013, 20:32:48 »
Uh, well, everything there really is to know about the factions is completely made up by the community...But I suppose that's all right? Or moreover, maybe that's the whole point?

Either way, I think one thread will suffice for now. Sure, I might go for it.

Destiny Pre-Release Discussion / Re: No damage indicators?
« on: June 11, 2013, 20:30:45 »
Might have had the equivalent of the Blind Skull on to show off the environments more, too.
I believe they set it so Staten couldn't take damage so that he didn't die in the middle of the playthrough. That's just my perspective, he took a ton of hits in that one bossfight where Jason died.

Great points! I actually thought about it being because Staten's so great he can't simply die, but then again, he wouldn't need immortality to win? ...Right?

Speaking of which, their shooting was really off the mark. Either they did it on purpose (to be more theatrical for the show (which they were, even without the poor shooting)), or it was a carefully planned move for Bungie to put the suckiest players on the stage.  But yeah, probably the first one.

60
They want to keep the story going for 10 years?

That's what I think I've heard, too. Or at least that the game will be hot stuff for the next 10 years or so.

That could mean that there will be occasional "event" situation which are basically and added campaign mission. Possibly being something like a bunch of players are brought into one server (or however it works) if they are near each other, and an all out war starts between two or three factions, with ships and all. It possibly even lasts all day, so that people don't miss it. Imagine hearing "hey dude, there's the Seven Seraphs vs FWC war going on in Destiny! It's been going on for four hours! Let's go try to win it!" from a friend. That would be just fantastic.

But I'm probably just fantasizing too much about something that isn't likely to happen.
Well, maybe things of that scale are a bit over the top, but maybe not! I myself do also believe that factions will be a great spice-up for the game, especially after the game has been running for some years. I've seen how people reacted to factions when they were "released" for the first time, and it looked really fun. Even though you didn't know anything concrete of a faction, people made stuff up and the others played along. While role-playing might be a bit childish for many "mature" gamers, I do think it will work out great.

If it's someone who can pull this off, it's Bungie. I think. :)
