Title: SGP - Basic maps
Post by: thebraino on October 06, 2009, 03:56:34
Reposting these links since the forum is being organized a bit more ;) Even adding blank ones!

Blank (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/thebrainoo/NewMombasa_Map.jpg)
Blank Print (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/thebrainoo/NewMombasa_Map_Print.jpg)
Color (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/thebrainoo/NewMombasa_Map_Labeled.jpg)
Print (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v348/thebrainoo/NewMombasa_Map_Labeled_Print.jpg)

After I make the complete one tomorrow, I'll see if there's a way to upload .pdf's (photoshop) and .xcf's (Gimp [freeware])

Of course, these maps are free to use and build off of in SGP =)

Good good. As soon as I get some thoughts down I can start posting topics and the like...
For now, however, I can't play ODST until I finish eating and posting in my other forums...

Ah, and requests for things to be added in maps and such would be nice.

Could we have a basic map which any person can add a location i.e: glyph etc, onto?
As i have been doing this with a map i printed off and i find it really helps, also it stops me from going over the same ground over and over.
We could also add notes to the locations, stating what is to be found there (what type of glyphs, are there any elites, engineers etc...).

I think the first one I posted will work from your description, it's just a blank map with no additional information
...or did you mean adding a map with glyph locations?

Adding a blank map (as in no tags or other things audio files) i'll start another topic for it.
Then as we locate more glyphs we can place them on the map.

nice maps by the way, they will really come in handy :)

I'm sorry, but I'm still confused... isn't the link quoted what you suggested?

[edit]
ah..if the white crosses are thowing you off, those are the where cursor was (I took tons of snapshots ingame), they don't refer to anything =) I'll try and take 'em out on tomorrow's project

Yes im sorry too i'm rather tired and not making myself clear.
I will add the 'blank' map you uploaded to another topic, i was wondering if this would be ok with you as they are your maps.

I think we shoulfd each work on our own maps and have a community map that everyone can add to.
I think that because I lead this part of the forum, I will control the community map and everyone here can give me their updates.
Ill put up a thread for it in a moment.

Sounds good, saves me that haste.  ;)

yes! of course that'd be fine! I'll add a note of that in the OP ;)

Random thought:
If we were to come up with a standard map, we could just start posting .png's that could be put ontop of images, so we compile them, if wanted...just a thought...

[edit] apparently that random thought isn't so random anymore, lol

tommorow I will grab a map and start marking it up with glyph locations and rooms I can get into using the mongoose trick. I would like for others to do this also after a bit I will ask for a copy of your maps and I will combine them and post them as a community map. just send me updates when you get em. When I feel the map as at completion or near completion, I will post it in our image gallery.

For now I will get some sleep!

Map album updated.  There are now sub-albums for COMM Data maps and Blank maps.  I uploaded Mr. Braino's blanks there.

Nice work, Cartographers!

Well...my quick campaign mapping quickly became my first glyph hunt...
Made a giant 4:30 video, finishing the map areas, and then different glyphs every second, lol (seriously, there's like 70 pictures of glyphs I'm gonna go through and compare, lol). I should have the completed map tomorrow....

Nice, can't wait to have a look! I have been doing half mongoose rooms/half glyphs... If you have different areas then me I will personally confirm them to help the maps accuracy.

Hey, I'd like to contribute with a set of maps. I think they're clearer and are easier to read and use...
The source map was bad, though.

Screen size (http://nbiyja.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p1LY236Z1zGSc9A350P2eikMtiZt0QVHeQc-nZYegm23vtV-RmPL4J68dGpYPlGHGdZTPMymqc5oLoA227W1hKtGpfbDkOZgt/NM_map.png)
A4 size for screen (http://nbiyja.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p9_LBgtQcf-CQ4Ca2JTqrXqosuajGbmBewBaabhES5CNxjzcP7WafXaCB7J9MffhOWcMBj6wmzvXBskwHf1t_YRNH1Mf9UDK1/NM_map_A4.png)

Print ready (A4 size, colour) (http://nbiyja.bay.livefilestore.com/y1pLUdEk_QWgVXmOUBy8I1_rjmMrp0Vx9Gwpa-mnAnzD-BkAauv1o_dCdNoAY5w9eW4tu8pomKtSVzDthN8FoB0v81qolWyh0IB/NM_map_A4_colour.doc?download)
Print ready (A4 size, grayscale) (http://nbiyja.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p5XO6CSsJXgdTVpEHjj1kHkDMExFitCYXe6hXEOI_CVnM1O3R5nRKKq01LIWJNFE5HJIQhpQ5ZZ3OtfMrRbu4mfKFjF6PGi0w/NM_map_A4_grayscale.doc?download)

I can resize them to any size you want, if you don't know how to do it (or don't want to do it yourself).

As you can see, I believe it's more important to know the locations in relation to the fixed buildings.
Also, every single location should be accompanied with a written description and tutorial (if there's the need) to get to it, so the maps don't have to be ultra-detailed (I'd love to have an HD captured map, though..)..

Unless you have a century-old printer, the 'Print ready' files should be print ready (talking about the margins..). If they're not, just resize them images a tad (arrr! *pirate*)..

Kay, done. :)
*Hopes the links aren't broken*

Pulse:  thanks for the contributions!  What was the source image?  I'd like to know before I post them to the gallery.

They are very clear!

The first two are great, but I think your Print Ready links are broken.
About that HD capture..*facepalm* I kinda dropped the ball a bit on that one...
I've been working on some painting projects, and the deadline is Christmas, lol.

I've been searching for days but I can't seem to find the source image's url! I have no idea where I've found it! I could give you the image, but not it's url, though....

Thanks for searching, Pulse.  Please reply and attach the source image.  I'll inspect the metadata.

Here's the "source". (?)"Source"(?) because it's not the original, because I didn't save it in my computer before editing it. I just copied and pasted to Photoshop and started working (I put it in a separate layer, which means the original is EXACTLY like that. I just don't have the original original...)

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.. It's kinda difficult to explain. :p

I'm almost sure I got it from Halopedia, but it seams like it was taken out. I even googled for imagesize:927x1361, but NOTHING appeared.

I believe I follow you, Pulse.  There's nothing telling in either the EXIF or IPTC metadata.  Since the SGP isn't selling anything (and we're a fan site) I'll go ahead and assume the map (and other based on it) are fair use until someone informs me otherwise.

Thanks for following up, Pulse!  And thanks again for you versions of this!
