Title: Weaponless Grunt
Post by: CIA391 on March 08, 2011, 21:58:47
I was playing Halo ODST after a long break of it and played firefight.
While I was playing firefight I blew up a phantoms turret and didn't get the points for killing the Grunt on the turret.
I continued playing and dying then gave up. Then I went to theater mode to watch my 2 minate vid.
I found out that the grunt survived and landed but without a weapon.
It didn't go and attack me and despawned later on by what I think the time the phantoms despawned.
I'll take pics of this grunt.

Even though this may lead to nowhere I thought it was kinda cool.

That is pretty cool, and I do agree completely with your theory. Good Job!

Does this mean that phantom turret kills are actually grunt kills? Interesting. In Halo 3 on Crow's Nest, I Meleed a phantom turret and got the achievement for destroying a vehicle with a certain amount of enemies in it.

Nice find!

Think about the phantom like you would a spectre, except that the driver is piloting the gun in front. You destroy the gun, which serves as a vehicle, and since the side gunners are on the turrets (attached to the vehicle), it counts as a vehicle with three occupants. So, even though you didn't get a triple kill, the game sees it as you destroying a vehicle that has three occupants. Voila!

Of course, this has probably been thought of by tons of people in the three years or so that Halo 3's been out :P

As forthe grunt that CIA found, it's considered part of the same Object as the Phantom. So yea, it'll spawn and despawn with the phantom if it's not killed. Isn't this the first time that we know of that a grunt has gotten off of the side turret?

Ah I see. Tricky. You can destroy the vehicle without killing its riders.

No.  It's only considered a vehicle because it's part of the phantom.  And since, under normal circumstances, you can't destroy the phantom, when the gun is destroyed the game counts it as the phantom being destroyed.  And there are three occupants in the Phantom.  So, according to the game, when you destroy the gun, you actually kill the Phantom.  As far as the game is concerned, you destroyed the entire Phantom, with its three occupants.  Bleep-bloop!

That's what I just said....
The turret is classified as holding 3 guys in the phantom, I destroy the turret (vehicle), but the 3 guys don't die. It just thinks they did.

I've seen grunts with spikers on Halo 3 after destroying the turret  never done anything like it on ODST, ever thought about trying it on reach if we can someone get the grunt to live, maybe with all skulls on
