Title: Remember Reach
Post by: Scatcycle on August 19, 2010, 15:47:37
http://www.rememberreach.com/ (http://www.rememberreach.com/)

We've all seen this site. Its counting down until August 24. It may be an ARG (very doubtful) but its probably marketing.

Yesterday, while me and Nightcrafter were in chat, i looked at the source code. You can get to the source code many ways. For Google Chrome, right click the scrolling bar on the right, for Firefox do CTRL-U, and other i have no experience with.

Now the strange thing is, most of that code is gone now. Wiped. I actually saved a copy of the code though, so we can use it for future reference.

What i found was, a video. I put a block of lines into notepad and saved as HTML, and when i opened it it was just black. I looked at the source code of that, and it turns out, it was a movie. I will get the code here soon. The only problem was, the link was a dead link.
This link: http://haloreach2storage.blob.core.windows.net/global/,LocaleConfigPath=http://haloreach2storage.blob.core.windows.net/global/xml/localeconfig_teaser.xml,Locale=none,SiteMode=teaser (http://haloreach2storage.blob.core.windows.net/global/,LocaleConfigPath=http://haloreach2storage.blob.core.windows.net/global/xml/localeconfig_teaser.xml,Locale=none,SiteMode=teaser)
was where the video is supposed to come from. The video would not work, since the link was killed. We did not know why it was, but now as we most of the code is gone, it looks like they are hiding something.

If you go to the actual site, http://haloreach2storage.blob.core.windows.net (http://haloreach2storage.blob.core.windows.net), you can see some text. EDIT: NVM about the text issues, it appears Chrome puts it in a diffrent format.

EDIT: The text is no longer there when you go to the site. They must have taken that down too.

EDIT: I have attached .txt files of the code, you can save it as .html and open it as a web page.

Someone from Bnet forums actually found it before. I'll try to find the Vid now...

Beaten by the masses.

DISCLAIMER:  I literally get about 3 minutes per day to access the web during the week, so I should probably be keeping my mouth shut.

But since I do not have the luxury to research this at the moment, can someone please explain how a remote controlled desk lamp is supposed to be awesome?  Are we waiting for the awesomeness to occur later?  It is really an ultra-high speed laser light show thingy that is going to make 3-D laser holography a reality?  Or is it just a desk lamp that German engineers can control from a wireless RS-232 connection?

I swear I'm not trolling.

Trough hacking, people found a stream where the [robo]arm was seen functional...I'm pretty sure you could find a vid about that trough the earlier vid I linked.
Oh, and Urk told that this is NOT part of ARG, just one of Microsofts interactive-experience-thingies.

More: A designer (i don't know if it's Microsoft or Bungie) is using a robot arm made by Kuka to pinpoint locations of stars on a map, which on the 24th will reveal the monument to Noble Team.

Thanks for the link, Imppa!

So basically, there are 54k pre-positioned points of light that cannot be changed, and through Facebook someone can select any one of those to "refresh", as the points dim over time.

Bungie publishes Halo Reach through Microsoft...
Microsoft has exclusive partnership with Facebook to sell advertising and owns 1% of company...
...Microsoft advertisers get a boost in revenue from increased Facebook traffic generated by Halo Reach.

So who advertises on Facebook?  LOL... all the same big companies that advertise everywhere else all of the time:  Nike, VISA, etc, etc.

But I digress.

RememberReach won't allow me to put in my birth date as if I was my current age when Reach falls!   >:(

Just cheat, man. Everybody does that.
...Right? <_<

I mean I tried to put in my birthday as 6/11/2526, so that I'd be my "actual age" for the Battle of Reach.

A 500 year old warrior isn't very helpful.
