Some how Jane does it. Basically, they teleport.

Just to explain this a little bit, you need to have a rudimentary understanding of the theory of relativity (I think that's what this is...).  The speed of light in a vacuum is supposed to be some sort of universal speed limit, and no form of matter as we know it can attain this speed.  There are even theoretical safeguards to stop any object (say, you) from reaching the speed of light. If you are in a spacecraft that is approaching the speed of light, you begin to move slower in relation to everyone else.  You yourself notice no change, nor will anyone else on the craft with you.  But since you cannot reach the speed of light, you slow down.

I do not like theoretical physics, because in a way it is not true science.  The above theory seems to begin with an outcome, and then the theorists attempt to rationalize that outcome.  Making a conclusion, and then coming up with the reasons to support it.  But anyway, that's the gist of the traveling method.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, guys, but Slipspace technology allows ships to reach speeds higher than the speed of light.
It's fiction.

Well, they don't use slipspace technology, but you have the concept right. But phantasm is right about the slowing down. In Ender's Game slip space, if you are slipping through space, your trip may only be 15 minutes, but to everyone else, it's been two years.

Actually, it does not, if you want to be technical. Slipspace drives rip a hole in our universe, allowing a craft to take a shorter route. Think of it as driving through a tunnel under a mountain, instead of taking the long, winding road around it.
