Title: One man, against all odds.
Post by: Kenji on October 02, 2010, 19:20:57
Title has been changed...

I have a feeling that there may be a tribute room or at least an easter egg in Long Night of Solace...
After you seige your way through the beach and reach the building, me and Fox (for the challenge today) decided to wait at the beach and kill everything. The enemies keep coming and you can just kill em all day! In any case after a bit of killin I heard the Halo announcer say "One man, against all odds". It gave me an impression that there is more to this level... dont proceed too far into the building as one of the doors lock behind you. but ive noticed 4 or 5 doors that are closed that I want to try to get into... 2 of them especially peek my interest... well time to go exploring!

Wait, what?
-Did you actually hear Jeff The Announcer say "One man against all Odds"? Vid? WTF!?
-Why do you think there are Easter Eggs? Because of the closed doors? Derp. :P

Calm down, and explain yourself.

videos is up in my share... I think it has to do with a marine that kills enough cabinets.
As for the doors I dont think its them... i should change the topic title now...

If there is indeed a tribute room here, I know how to beat the covenant in the fight for the beach.

The following was on legendary.
I killed the covenant on the beach before I could see the building. Once I got close to the place where you can fight the covenant forever, I rushed the wraith that gets dropped down and jacked it. I had to hit the wing things off, and its hard to get up the hill, but I made it up the hill thats meant to be a flanking path. From there, I could kill all the covenant, no problem. Single player, I got far, with no damage at all, using the wraith to kill everything. Then I had to go, so I couldn't experiment. I do have the game saved, so I shall continue later. So if you need to defend the beach, use the wraith. You are unstoppable. With four players, and one in the turret, you cannot die.

Me and a Non-SGP friend tried this on Legendary. We got up the beach, and jacked the Wraith. I tried to drive it off the platform.....but got stuck under. Was this bad? Gherjzs no! Now, my friend and I could obliterate (like, the Spirits nearly ran into each other, obliterate) all the Cabinet could throw at us, while taking no damage at all. We had to stop after the first couple of waves, so we couldn't check for the OMAAO announcement.

Did you try to drive back through the bridge? You have to go up the hill, and it's very tricky. You have to use rb (whatever you use to "lift" the vehicle") to get over certain parts.

No, I literally had to leave the xbox for soccer. I could have gone on forever.

I've heard "One man against all odds." as Marine dialogue in both this level and once elsewhere.

As for defeating the Covenant at the facility door, I've used this section of the game for most of the Campaign challenges, including the ones where you kill 50 Elites and 150 enemies in Campaign.  Nothing interesting happened to me but it was also on Solo and I wasn't really looking.

I'll get a screenshot for you later today.

Is it just a dialogue? I mean, in Kenji's video, there is only 1 marine left. He says some dialogue before "OMAAD" (One man, against all odds ;)), but the sound of his voice is completely different, and you hear OMAAD much clearer than his dialogue. Or was there another marine I din't notice?

Yes....

They kept coming. I guess you could do either way.

Well, if b.net wasn't screwing up on me, I'd attach the screenshots of the Wraith Under the Platform. So, go to my b.net profile, and thou shalt see-eth them.

I heard this dialogue in a video I downloaded off fileshare the other day, I think I might be able to reupload it to my file share.

This sounds familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.
