Report In! / Re: SGP: Engineer Reactions to Weapons
« on: October 11, 2009, 13:29:35 »
I went out and in and switched weapons between Brute Shot, Pistol and Carbine a bunch of times, they only reacted that way to the Brute Shot.

Report In! / SGP: Engineer Reactions to Weapons
« on: October 10, 2009, 21:27:10 »
Finally I have discovered something new and interesting!  At least for me.

I am currently running around the MS trying to get par (btw I've been wandering for 45 minutes on Heroic with Catch, Tough Luck, Thunderstorm, and Famine on and I only have 60000 points.  not enough patrols!) and decided to start killing Engineers to get to 100k faster.

I walked into the S06 Squidhenge and didn't shoot them immediately.  I noticed they didn't react to me much with my Pistol out and aiming at them.  Then I switched to the Brute Shot and they both made an alarmed noise and floated away quickly.  I switched back to Pistol and got no such reaction.  The Carbine next to the dead Elite gets not such reaction.

It might just be a behavior to add richness to the "Engineers don't like Brutes" thing, but I thought it worth noting.

I would love to have an HD copy of Sadie's Story!  Not just for analysis, I really feel like I missed some of the best aspects not being able to full screen it in-game.

I will glad pour over the story if I can access it beyond my box.  If you can do this, 10 Hero medals for you.

I experienced something similar to this with the SI glyph in Squidhenge, as I mentioned here: http://subculturelifestyle.com/forum/index.php?topic=35.msg327#msg327

We didn't die, just re-loaded the section for each of us separately.  I see this as more evidence that glyphs disappearing and reappearing are due to loading glitches.  Which is totally lame.

Are you asking if any of the books covered what the numbers mean?  Or are you asking about the specific numbers of our ODST squad?

If its the former then I can't say definitively, but I've read every book (except The Flood, which I believe does not include ODSTs) and I don't remember it coming up.  If its the latter then definitively no.

Dutch's is the same except you interpreted one character as an 8 that others interpreted as a B.

The location of the Asklon logo sign is through the door just east of the Supply Cache in D04.  I've passed through there way too much.

The "destiny awaits" poster... if it's the one I'm thinking of... is above the infamous "Glyph Unlock" door in D08.  You see it in the daytime if you use this area for sniping during the Tayari Plaza campaign.  It shows a line graph rising into infinity.  Is that the one you were describing?

These two posters are usually found as a pair, either down the hallway from each other or in facing hallways (as in the Crater and Crater-clone rooms where you spawn for FF)

I noticed you don't have one that I think has some importance.  I believe it is an advertisement for the train stations.  It says in the middle "Relax, you right on time".  I have noticed also that some of these posters change.  It might be timed or random, but it does seem that the "relax" poster appears while the super tri-glyph is activated.  Also not sure if thats what it says exactly, but it's close.  Also noticed that the "relax" sign often appears when the "BELIEVE" graffiti is activated.  Could these be linked to the other electronic 'screens' that say "connection lost"?

Aha!  I had totally forgotten about that sign.  I was originally just looking for corporate signs and logos but I'll throw in municipal and UNSC recruitment posters also.

143
That poster is in other places around the city.  Though I still believe the placement you're referring to could be significant.

The bottom reads something like "Defeating the Covenant is just the beginning, opportunities for colonial volunteers abound."  The wording is very off, but the jist is the same.

144
The Optican, Hinos and Jotun logos were taken from the side of their corporate buildings instead of from posters/ads.

There's two great posters for Asklon also.  One of them has a list of cities, presumably their major headquarters.  The other has a picture of the earth and a caption that says "Destiny Awaits".  They appear in several interior spaces but I forget where at the moment.

The cities on the poster are: Dusar, Nairobi, Chiba, Pelion, Crisium, Seven Hills, Essex Jct, Sydney, Chicago

Interesting Notes:
  • Asklon appears to be the only corporation with accessible buildings.  Levels with open buildings or other interior spaces related to Asklon: Mombasa Streets, Tayari Plaza, Kizingo Boulevard, Kikowani Station, Coastal Highway.
  • There is a Jotun building with NMPD and UNSC banners above the front entrance.

I was playing with a friend last night who managed to do this also.  We found out that you can beat someone down through and also shoot out of the dumpster.  Then a patrol walked down the street and stood next to the dumpster shooting at me without even seeing him.  A grunt turned around and saw him through a crack, squawked and through a sticky inside with him.  We were laughing harder that I have yet with ODST.

SGP Task Force: Ghost Chasers / Re: SGP: Disappearing Glyphs
« on: October 06, 2009, 12:46:46 »
Thinking is whats gonna get these mysteries solved!

I don't know if you all saw my post in the other topic regarding glyphs semi-disappearing in coop; has anyone else experimented with the disappearing this way?  I didn't have time to fully investigate last night, but an SI monoglyph lost the SI for 1 person and not the other.  The 2nd person loaded through a door, came back and the SI was back for him also...

148
So I was trying to do the "open door" glitch in 2 player coop and noticed something unfortunate.  We were traveling from the alley that supposedly opened the door to the door.  We stopped at the S06's Stonehenge to look around because all the 6-es had disappeared from the walls of the sector.  Inside, the glyph with the sad SI at the top no longer showed his head.  I then went to the door in S08 and it was still closed.  On my return to S06 the SI's sad face had reappeared, but not for my teammate who hadn't gone into S08, he then went and returned and the SI's face was back.

This inconsistency in loading is unsettling.  It might mean that a lot of the shifts that we thought were intentional are merely accidents.  I hope not, but I thought I'd mention it.

Theorizers / SGP: Saving the Engineers?
« on: October 05, 2009, 22:12:03 »
Does anyone know or has anyone tried to eliminate the guards around any Engineers and not have them die?  It just occurred to me that if this can be accomplished it might be pretty helpful...

I thought of this when I was in the Tayari Plaza mirror.  There was 1 Brute and 2 Engineers and 0 other Covenant anywhere around.  I sneaked to the back and found a single sniper positioned directly between plasma barrels.  I thought maybe I was supposed to kill the Brute with the sniper in one shot, maybe it would kill him and not the Engineers.  No such luck.  I then tried assassinating the Brute to seek the same effect.  No luck again.

Anyone else encountered lone Brutes with Engineers or have any luck not killing Engineers?

150
Another piece to the not-firefight Crater: there were 2 Engineers and 1(gold, captain) Brute there.  I have NEVER seen a lone Brute in ODST (except for the 2 scripted individuals running up the hill at the end of Uplift Reserve).  I couldn't have killed his grunts, I had only killed 1 jackal so far that game, there were no other jackals or brutes anywhere in the area.

Thoughts?
