Title: The Official Lord Friendship's BOB Video Guide Thread
Post by: Lord Friendship on October 26, 2011, 14:03:00
My guide is an attempt to be thorough but still interesting.  Not only does the guide show where all the BOBs are, it shows strategies for taking down each one on Legendary.

Accompanying the guide itself will be videos in my File Share.  Each video will be a full run of the mission (starting from Mission Start and playing all the way through to the end of the level), on Legendary, with IWHBYD and GBP on, FFA scoring, while on Xbox LIVE, with no deaths, and I'll also read all DataPads in the level.  Some stuff (like the skulls, scoring) are probably not important, but I want to keep it consistent.  Note: Due to the impending shutdown of rendering services, this will not be available as of Video Guide Part 6.  However, if I have time, I will add this later.

Thank you for the post!

If you guys have anything to add to this, especially any official comment on BOBs from Bungie or 343, it would be greatly appreciated.  As it stands, this video is about 95% done and I could have it out the door by the end of the week.

Also, if you think the official definition is inaccurate, let me know.  I want the wording to be precise.  Also feel free to fact-check any of this.

I feel the definition should include "Born On Board", since that is what BOB actually stands for.

BS Angel hasn't really done anything regarding the "BOB Helmet" beyond what the rest of us have: acknowledge that some weird helmet exists in promotional images.  The lame "I'd tell you but I'd have to kill you" trope is probably nothing more than a corporate cop-out.  Whatever is up with that helmet (they were going to release it, but it got scrapped due to technical issues... it's slated for later release... we haven't found it yet), it seems the company line is that they can't talk about it.  And Bungie employees just hand the ball back to 343.

BOB Video Guide Part 2 - Winter Contingency

Filming is done for this one, I've got no-death Legendary runs for each of the seven BOBs and film clips for each kill.  I'm also going to talk about the invisible Spectre elite (Bill) at the beginning of the mission as a non-BOB.  Once I finish Part 1 I can have this ready in a few days, probably.

"Bill" was an ill-informed nickname given to that Spec Ops Elite by the Reach Secrets Group.  It was given with no basis, other than they apparently thought it was similar sounding to the name "BOB".  Naming something after a random English male name like "Bill" implies that the name "BOB" was likewise randomly attributed from a list of English male names, which is certainly not the case here.  As stated above: "Born On Board".  My personal opinion is that we should refrain from propagating that nickname.

BOB Video Guide Part 3 - ONI

I want to pop the mission designer for ONI in the mouth.  Not really, but there are 16 different spawn/armor combinations, and I want to be thorough, so... yeah, I have to beat this level 16 times on Legendary without dying, and each time kill a different BOB, which is random.  The good news is that I've only got 3 armor/spawn combinations left on this level.  The bad news is that this means there's a 3/16 chance that I'll get one of those combinations, and probably a 1/4 chance I'll actually beat the level without dying, so on any given run I have a 3/64 chance of success. :(

WOW!  That's dedication!  I'm more likely to pop the LNoS mission designer in the mouth for the Beach BOB issues.  Or pop whoever was responsible for Banshee BOBs not awarding Seek and Destroy medals in the mouth.  But mostly, I'm thankful that my investment in the game has kept my intermittent interest for over a year.  Entertainment money well spent.

BOB Video Guide Part 5 - Tip of the Spear

THIS one is where I need major help.  I'm about 80% sure that either there is some trick to the BOB spawns on this mission, or there's an undiscovered BOB.  I've done many runs of this level where no BOB appears.  If you guys want to run through this level a few times, see if the BOBs spawn where expected, it'd be appreciated.

I'll start saving full run-throughs of TotS.

I'm impressed by what I've found here, and I look forward to working together.

Thank you very much!  Your work has been equally as impressive, and we're honored to have you on board!

I'm hesitant to include that term in an official Reach definition.  The only place they're actually called BOB is in the Bnet stats; the name doesn't really have anything to do with being born on board something.

True, but I do want to include the fact that bs angel at least acknowledged it; I do wish we had more official word, though.

Alright, I won't call him Bill.  I guess he's just "the invisible Spec-Ops Elite that drops a Data Pad"?  In any case, I do explain in the video where the name BOB comes from.

Agreed!  Whether or not the BOBs unlock treasured secrets, they do at least greatly increase the replay value of the game.  I've had a lot of fun tracking them down.  Except for the Lone Wolf BOB, I hate that guy.

I'll start saving full run-throughs of TotS.

Thanks!  If you can get anyone else to do the same, I'd appreciate it.  Since a lot of my run-throughs use skips (not approaching the first Tyrant gun, bypassing the BXR facility) I'm wondering if maybe the Spire BOBs only spawn if you load all the other enemies in the level.  Seems far-fetched though.  In any case, run-throughs that don't use skips are more valuable, and once I'm done with ONI and Nightfall I'll be saving the same.

LOL.  I get your point that any alternative will be longer than "Bill"- and I struggled to come up with a shorter description myself- so thanks for your support.  The "Data Pad Spec Ops" is probably sufficient, but since this is a thread about BOBs and not Data Pads, can we table this for another day?  ;)

Do you care which difficulty?  I was going to just blast through on Easy a bunch of times.  I have yet to find any BOB spawn which doesn't appear on every difficulty.

In my Fileshare, I have 3 videos of separate BoBs. (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileShare.aspx?player=Insane%20Monx) The TotS one is the very first Bob on that level.

Sure!  But, I'm putting together this video guide soon.  I just won't specify a name for him aside from a non-BOB.  While we're on the topic, some kooks think that there's a Banshee BOB on this level; what they're referring to is one of the early Banshees that constantly boosts away once you pass some invisible trigger.  Would you want to take one down during the next "Golden Opportunity"?  Not easy, I know, you'd basically have to PP it then stick it.

I don't care at all.  Easy is fine, and I agree that BOBs appear on every difficulty (so far).

In my Fileshare, I have 3 videos of separate BoBs. (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileShare.aspx?player=Insane%20Monx) The TotS one is the very first Bob on that level.

That's cool, but what would be really helpful is videos of TotS where it appears that no BOB spawns.  Then, if you can, go back and try to find one!  If not, put it in your file share and let me know.  The more attempts we get, and the more people search, the more likely we are to find it (if it even exists).

Welcome, Lord Friendship, your dedication is pretty obvious and I picture your work to be excellent by the way you write your posts!

I'd like to leave a few comments, though.
- Name BOB refers to Marathon friendlies that rogue AI instructed player to kill
Even though that's true, the way you wrote it (or, more correctly, the way I understood it) means that the Halo: Reach characters referenced to as Elite Rangers in the Enemies page of a player's Career Stats in Bungie.net are called BOBs and are so because there are characters in a game called Marathon with the same name.
As far as I know this hasn't been confirmed, which means that, in order to stay as accurate and factual as possible, you should NOT say in your guide that "BOB" means "Born On Board". It's okay to say that there are characters called BOBs in a whole different game and that, in the context of the same game, "BOB" means "Born On Board" AND, by chance, the player was instructed to kill every single one of them, which seems to also be the case with Halo: Reach's golden Elite Rangers.

I hope I was able to make myself be understood - I'm so tired I can barely formulate coherent thoughts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure full-length videos are the best idea on a guide about BOBs. As a reader, I'd sure be more interested in multiple 10-15 second videos with each BOB (or a longer video for each Campaign Mission, I don't know...) rather than 30 minutes long videos.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I was working on a Covenant Ranks guide while working on my proposal for our website's design and layout before school started.
Since then I haven't had neither time or a fresh head to tackle such a huge task, so it's been dormant on the side.
If I recall correctly, though, I think I have a Shield Strength table for BOBs which you might be interested in (or not). If I do then it's in another computer, so I'll have to check.
I'll post it if I have it.

Keep it up! Now I'm going to bed - I even have classes on Saturdays!

PS: I guess it'd be a good idea to check how 343i describes BOBs on their B.net-equivalent stats tracker when it comes out?

Can anyone tell me where the known BOBs of ToTS are? I know of the first one, but no other ones. I need to know, otherwise, I might not see any BOBs just because I wasn't looking in the right place, and the film will be wasted.

Welcome LF (you won't mind the nick do you?), it's good to have someone like you in our ranks! ;D

Might want to clarify this, Pulse: is the problem the fact that the connection between Gold Rangers and Marathon BOBs is feeble, or is it even that the fact between Gold Rangers and the name "BOB" is feeble itself?

It is true that there have not been any official reports of the name actually being BOB: while Achronos did use the name in his reply to the rumors (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=59238815&postRepeater1-p=146#63096656), he might've mentioned it just because others did. he didn't mention "BOB" in the reply about Light Vehicles (http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=59045688&postRepeater1-p=1#59051697), he calls them Gold Elites.
It might be good to mention this, for science. :)

According to HRS/Bnet member "bjb yo",
Quote
There is an agressive BoB with a Fuel Rod right after crashing your Falcon into the sheild around the Spire. This BoB has many spawns around (and maybe even in) the Spire, but he always seems to make a run for the Spire at some point, making him even harder to kill in time.

What I meant was that saying that the meaning of "BOB" (the Halo: Reach characters) is "Born On Board" should be avoided because there is absolutely no evidence that this is the case.

Almost positive that the QTA XII VI Marine is a BOB.

Monx and I were doing a ToTS run, and we found a BOB on the first hill. Not anything worth noting. I went AFK due to unforeseen consequences. I then come back maybe a half hour later, and we do one trickjump and then restart the level. In Co-op, restarting the level resets all probabilty of the different BOB spawns.

We go through the level again. Nothing. No BOBs anywhere. This means there was a hidden one, one we had to find. I went into theater and looked EVERYWHERE. There was not a single one, anywhere. Then I noticed a marine, dropped off in a group of his bretheren from a Pelican, had the QTA engraved into his side kit. This is the Bob that spawned. There was nothing else, no Boosting Banshees or anything. I have a film (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=24665691&player=Scatcycle) of this marine BOB.

Ways to prove that this is a BOB are:
1: Play through, make sure the first documented BOB spawns on the hill, then check if the marine with QTA shows up.
2: Kill him when the Golden Opportunity Challenge comes up.

Here is the entire film.  (http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=24663600&player=Scatcycle) Keep in mind that I went AFK, so the first 45 minutes or so are unimportant. When the level restarts, you can try and search for this BOB. But I'm 99.9% sure there isn't one. Except for the marine.

Did all the enemies spawn in the level?  It's possible, at several points in this level, to proceed without spawning certain groups of enemies.  Did you use any skips of any sort?

Hey, I appreciate all the work you guys are doing.  Something is up with the TotS BOB, I'm just not sure what.

If no one has noticed, I've started putting renders and game stats in my original post, so people can verify that I'm not full of it.  So far Winter Contingency has all of the renders and game stats posted, and I'm still working on ONI.  So, if you want to see a particular BOB from Winter Contingency, go right ahead!  Bnet seems to store rendered films indefinitely, so I think it's a valid verification method.

Also, let me know what you think of the numbering system.  It's a lot easier, but I understand it's a little less accurate.  What I originally used was close to what you guys had, but I'm trying to keep it simple for the video guide.  In any case, the BOBs on ONI are numbered in the same order as the permutations in the "Elite Armor" section of Reach's start menu.  So, 08 is Minor, 09 is Spec Ops, 10 is Ranger, and so on.

Keep it up guys!  Part 1 of the guide will be up soon!

Thanks for the feedback on the first video guide!  I'm glad it was well-received, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Just as an update: still trying to track down that one last ONI BOB (Spec-Ops, Atrium).  But, as a result of my repeated playthroughs, I just crossed 200 Legendary BOB kills!

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/careerstats/medals.aspx?player=Lord%20Friendship&vc=4&df=3

Of course, using the Target Designator on ONI to speed through the level over & over has also put me over 100 Killionaires.  It's not boosting!

Don't forget to check out the TotS BOB Hunt thread.  Some very interesting theories over there!

UPDATE: ONI Spec-Ops Atrium BOB wiped out!  Renders to come!

Nice work on those images, LF!  Much earlier in the year I made what I thought was a really cool film clip showing the B-02 continually respawning in different armor- and I made sure it went through all 8 permutations.

When I dug it up to put it on my fileshare, I discovered an somewhat ugly "security" feature of Reach:  you cannot upload film clips that were made while you were offline.   >:(

So if you find yourself spending a weekend alone somewhere without an internet connection but with your Xbox, don't plan to spend that time making awesome videos in Theater Mode.  Because you'll have to invite people over to your house to see them!

So either I record it for YouTube or recreate it.  I'll probably recreate it.  It's pretty cool to see, in my opinion.

I finally got the time to sit down at a PC with access to YouTube and watched your first BOB Video Guide entry:  well done!

This should go a LONG WAY to getting the public up-to-speed quickly with the truth about our favorite wily rangers.

I was happy to see that our GO Challenge video on YouTube was cited as a source, complete with link.  I'm very happy that our work has been symbiotic.

Thanks also for the credit at the end!  My only little suggestion would be that if interaction with our forum lends assistance to your future videos (and I hope it does!), it might be nice to simply credit "The SGP" or "gruntspajamas.com" instead of individual members.  We're a team!  ;)

Your voiceover voice was also very professional- an even, matter-of-fact tone.  Classy!

I raise my glass to our future collaboration!

I'm glad you liked it!  I'll be sure to credit the group in the future, probably a nod to SGP and HBO at the end of each one.

If you haven't seen it, there's another link in the description for the video (there's a lot, I know...) that points to a new video showing the mystery helmet doll on Battle Canyon again.  This time, it gets bumped by a pink Spartan (about 20 seconds in) showing that it has physical interactions; I'm guessing it's hiding up in that room, and can be dropped down by an explosion.  Can't wait to get HCEA and find it!  That and the "grunt in a barrel" on Damnation.

Part 2 coming soon!  I'd like to have up to Part 4 out by the time HCEA launches, but we'll see.  Most of the footage is done, I just need to find the time to sit down and put it together!

The system available in my country is PAL. If you have a PAL-specific theory I can test, do tell - I'll try to manage some time to do it.
I'm actually kind of sad I haven't been helpful, but I've always got so much work to do it's impossible to spend time in ghost hunting (and I need my bi-weekly fix of multiplayer Slaying).

But still, if there is something only I can test, I'll be glad to do it.

PS: Differences between NTSC and PAL are not far-fetched at all - I remember a jump/shortcut (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjgS_jG8lzo) on AotCR only NTSC people could do in Halo: CE.

The easiest way to check would be for you to take pictures of the BOB spawns on Winter Contingency, and we can compare those to the ones in my video.  Any difficulty works, just grab a pic before they become aware of your presence.

If anyone has any questions/comments/concerns, I'd like to hear them!  I'm always looking for ways to improve the guides, as I want them to be the definitive one-stop source for BOB info.

Of course, the next BOB guide won't be out until we figure out this TotS BOB thing.  When I can, I'm going to beat the level on Legendary, with zero deaths, while killing all possible enemies.  I figure that with a resource like that, it'll only be a matter of time until we find our missing BOB!

No worries, LF.  We all have lives, and most of us (especially me!) have had long bouts of absence to deal with the real world.  No expectations here.

IRL Priorities have kept me from getting my New Alexandria BOB video up, although I have been sneaking in some game play here and there.

but the Fuel Rod BOBs are proving to be quite a challenge.
How so?

You spawn at the Spire with an Assault Rifle and DMR, so my trusty noob combo is just about out of the question.  For the BOB that spawns closest to you, you can grab a Plasma Pistol provided Jorge doesn't scare him off.  For the BOB that spawns far to the left, a direct assault is impractical, as he'll run one of three directions, and you can't catch up to him unless you happen to choose the right path.  For the BOB that spawns by one of the Invasion generators, you basically need to Sprint up to him and pray he doesn't nail you with a Fuel Rod.

I think that for the far-left one you can come back and get him later when you've got a Banshee, I've done that before.  The other two are likely to get spooked before you have a chance at that, so it's a lucky noob combo for the first one you see, and a desperate attempt at a Beat Down on the Invasion generator BOB.  If you could push Jorge off the edge, it would be easier, but no luck.

On a related note, don't try to pull the fancy Assassination animation on these guys.  They despawn 25 seconds from when they notice you; by the time you've caught up with them, you don't have time for the fancy stuff.  I did a full no-death Legendary run, assassinated one of the BOBs, and THOUGHT that I got him.  Watching the video, I saw that he despawned one or two frames from the end of the animation, and thus no kill.  It's not the slow, gradual despawn of the Winter Contingency BOBs either, it's MUCH more rapid, which is an interesting difference.

If anyone has a reliable method, let me know.  Running them over seems too risky; they just shoot you like mad as you slowly approach them.

@LF: It sounds like your attempting this on Legendary. I could try this on my own time, but I need to know the requirements or if you could even use any help at all.

Also, since I'm only assuming the requirements, could you do it on Co-op with others? AR spam seems to work quite well as long as Tilt's off, but that's only because I slaughter Bobs on Easy.
Title: Re: The Official Lord Friendship's BOB Video Guide Thread

I'm trying to get all the BOBs on Legendary, and my video guides provide strategy for the same.  AR spam is essentially useless on this difficulty.

Scatcycle: The jetpack is too slow to catch up to the BOBs here; I keep Sprint, which is what you have when you land.

@LF:

Check out the ToTS clips in my file share, especially "FC:BOB 5-B-1.3 Standoff".  This shows you where the script trigger is.  For both BOB spawns over on the left, you can always get in a fully charged plasma bolt- at least on Heroic.  You will have plenty of time to pick off the grunts, skirmishers, etc so that you can walk up and take your pick of a plasma pistol - so long as you do not venture too far forward toward the Spire.

Furthermore, I found that I was able to get pretty reliable checkpoints as I approached the BOBs on the left side- so that reverting to checkpoints always gave me another chance if I messed up.  I know you're attempting to do this without dying, but I wasn't sure what your policy was on reverting.
Title: Re: The Official Lord Friendship's BOB Video Guide Thread
Post by: Lord Friendship on December 04, 2011, 15:58:13
Yeah, I don't want to revert either, but your point about the script triggers is a good one.  Long, long, ago I had battled a BOB after I made it to the Spire and grabbed a Banshee, which made me think that proximity is a big factor.  For the BOB that spawns closest, you've got to worry about Jorge alerting him, but the other two you can more or less ignore until you're more properly equipped, which is nice.  That FRG is still pretty fierce.

In any case, I've got videos for the BOB at the first Tyrant gun (#27), the closest BOB in the Spire area (#28), and the BOB that spawns by where the Invasion generator is (#30).  Once I get the far-left BOB (probably with a noob combo), and maybe re-do the video for #28 as it's ridiculously long, I'm going to do a run of the level on Legendary, with as few deaths as possible, killing everything, where no BOB spawns.  Then I'll try to re-ignite the TotS BOB search, both here and maybe in a few other forums, if I can get people interested.

I've noticed that there are a few "doomed" Falcons on the level, in addition to the one at the very beginning, that will be taken out by the Tyrant guns unless you move very quickly.  Not sure if that's part of this, but I'll try to save them in my run-through.

There are four, one in each sector of the map- they appear below the city horizon and are scripted to fly to another point on constant boost. If you miss one, you must wait until the next one. The script will loop infinitely until you kill one.

2. What triggers the Banshee BOBs to spawn?  It seems to be relative to your location, but perhaps based on number of checkpoints, or number of Banshees destroyed?

I have a timer hooked up to the map that gives a random variance. Here is the script:

(sleep (* 30 60 (random_range 5 7)))

This basically waits a random range of anywhere from 5-7 multiplied by 30 ticks (30 ticks = one second) times 60 seconds, so 5, 6 or 7 minutes.

There is no relative location. It just randomly picks a point and spawns a banshee.

Quote
1. Is there anything that could reset or otherwise affect the BOB spawn timer on New Alexandria?
No.

2. Did you have a method in mind for the player to wipe out the BOB in the atrium on The Package?  I show my own, highly unreliable, method here: http://youtu.be/MysOomVmvZo
Nope. That BOB was designed to be incredibly hard to kill. I do recall that you could jump off of the wrecked artwork and in through the window. I’ve found that this community can make the impossible, possible. For that BOB, I just put in obstacle, not the means to solve the problem.

3. Why was the Banshee BOB chosen for New Alexandria?  I had a theory that they were used on Exodus as the Elite model wasn't included in the level, but there are Rangers in the hospital, leaving me to wonder.
The way the game loads stuff in memory influenced Banshee BOB. We normally don’t have the Elite Character loaded when the player is flying around save for one mini-mission objective (kill the elites and the engineer). Normally, the elite is not loaded when the player is flying around the world.

4. Why don't Banshee BOBs award the Seek and Destroy medal, or grant an Elite Light Vehicle kill?
I am unaware of what all of that stuff means. Mission design doesn’t pay much attention to medals or kill types- sorry.

5. What's going on in this video taken during the underground sequence of The Package?  http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/FileDetails.aspx?fid=18238142 It was believed initially that this was another Banshee BOB, but of course you clarified that this was not the case in a post on HBO.
At the end of that mission, we want to remove the Banshee as an enemy, so we call a script that gets them to bug out and remove themselves from play.

6. Was it intentional for there to be 49 (=7^2) BOB spawn points in the Campaign on Legendary?
Sure!

7. Any undiscovered secrets in either New Alexandria or The Package?
I believe everything has been found- but I’ve been surprised before.

8. Were the switches that spawn four Banshees on The Package influenced at all by the Annual achievement from Halo 3?
No. They were there to support what I called the AJMode easter egg. AJMode basically kicks in when you hit either of the switches in New Alexandria (on the side of the building) or The Package. What AJMode does is remove soft ceilings so players can explore beyond the world. AJMode refers to Ascendant Justice, the Halo fansite- I was a big fan of their work and thought I’d give them props. There were complaints that Soft Ceilings hurt people’s exploration of levels- so I put in an easter egg that allows players to turn them off. The Package had no way of exploiting this since it was an Island, so I thought giving each player a Banshee would be a fun way to see the world.

9. Were the BOBs implemented as planned, or was something about them cut from the final game?
I don’t recall- that was Luke Smith’s baby. I’m sure we wanted to do more with it, we always do- but you gotta ship sometime.

Do you mind if I quote you directly in the video guide?  I like to make my information as credible as possible, and being able to say that this information came directly from the mission designer himself (especially in regards to the script timer for the New Alexandria BOB spawn) would be a great help.
I have no problem with you quoting me. Feel free to post this wherever you wish.

Sorry for the bad formatting, not much time right now.  In any case, I thought this was a very enlightening conversation!

Wow, really nice job. That has to be the most informative and detailed video of Bobs on this level out there. Wasn't too complicated and nice job with the random chance portrayal with the dice, pictures always help  :)

Thanks! I keep seeing YouTube comments like "I looked for BOB X, and he wasn't there" so I thought I should clarify how it works.  Stay tuned for Exodus! I learned some things about the BOBs on that level that I don't think anyone else knows.

I'd be lying if I said that I didn't learn anything from that last video...

That's the whole point!  I'm here to educate.  On that note...

BOB Video Guide Part 7: Exodus (YouTube) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5trKgy_uhVc)

This one features a brief explanation of why Banshee BOBs were chosen, straight from Dan Miller (hint: it's already quoted in this thread) and never-before-seen explanations of what triggers the BOBs on this level.

I'm actually especially proud of that last part... lots of trial & error to determine the "box" size.  Want the raw images to mock yourself?  Check out my poor drawing skills (click to biggify):

Nice! Ah yes, the boxes. CG and I discovered them when trying to jack or stop the last Exodus Bobshee by jetpacking above them and falling in. For some reason we never made pictures or mentioned it to anyone, so it's good that you did that. I wonder if CG still has that "The Baggage of Exodus Bobshee 3" clip. It was an awesome clip.

It's entirely probable that no one will care about this, but I just wiped out two different Exodus BOBs in two (http://halo.xbox.com/en-us/Career/HaloReach/GameHistory#!/?game=999204835) consecutive (http://halo.xbox.com/en-us/Career/HaloReach/GameHistory#!/?game=999219848) no-death full-run Legendary games, and in one of those games I nabbed a Human "BOB".  This was thoroughly awesome.  I only just beat this level without dying for the first time yesterday, and now I have videos for all three BOBs in my file share.  Just wanted to share.

I can't view either of those games   :(

Good job on the Bob series, I know you still have to do the Lone Wolf one, but those videos are really helpful. Thanks for making them, I'll definitely post them in threads on Bungie.net and Halo.xbox.com when they're needed.

P.S. What is that at the end of the PoA video?

Just a human with the service tag BOB.  It's actually just the nickname of some poor Bungie employee... I got him in a BOB run on ONI too.  I shoot him when I can, just in case.

I can't view either of those games   :(

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Waypoint's game stats functionality yet.  Maybe only I can view them?  I hope that's not the case, I had been using game stats as a quick way for people to verify I've actually gotten BOB in a zero-death Legendary game.  Without that, they would have to watch the whole video (about 25 minutes for Exodus).

The little bit at the end of the PoA video is just me doing the jump to the Mass Driver in reverse.  I didn't have a fun clip to put at the end, so I did that.  It's a very old clip, I tried (many, many times...) to nail the jump shortly after RC Master discovered it ages ago.  Sorry if it's lame, I think the bonus clip(s) at the end of my next video will be much more enjoyable...

This is it!  The final chapter of the BOB Video Guide, covering Lone Wolf's sole BOB.  Also, I provide as much strategy as I can think of to those who might want to succeed at this punishing level.

BOB Video Guide Part 11: Lone Wolf (YouTube) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGOlkIVV8gs)

I can't believe it's done!  Thank you guys for all the help, motivation, and kind words over the months.  I hope you feel that these guides fill the void of a comprehensive, evidence-based BOB guide that was so sorely missing before.

Don't worry, I'm still not done!  I am still (slowly) working on taking out each BOB in a Legendary, no-death, full-run game wherein I access all DataPads for the level.  I plan to do this first for the 48 Legendary BOB spawns excluding Lone Wolf, and the 7 Heroic spawns on Winter Contingency (apparently the Concussion Rifle BOBs and Plasma Repeater BOBs are separate spawns, making 14 for the level).  After that, I may or may not beat the game on Mythic before tackling the Lone Wolf BOB.  I figure this should either prove or disprove with certainty the existence of any special ending related to the BOBs.

I'm not sure how long that will take, but I'll keep you guys updated... don't hold your breath!  Let me know what you think (and be sure to stick around to watch the WHOLE video)!

Edit: Just to keep you guys up to speed on my progress, I've killed BOBs 01-31 and 37-39 in Legendary no-death full-run games.  I'm working on New Alexandria now, I have a strategy but I need the stars to align, so to speak.  I'll probably be doing LNoS just before Lone Wolf; that level is going to be tough.

Lord Friendship,

Excellent job! And sorry for this late congratulation. :)

I am very, very glad someone finally made a throughout guide of the BOBs. I can only imagine how many hours it took you, and how much blood, tears and sweat it consumed. I just hope I would've helped you much more along the way..but, well, I didn't. So, my Lord ;), enjoy your glory and the fruits of your work, for they are marvelous and excellent in every way! ^^

Hey there, I created a new video to showcase a much easier way to get the Atrium BOB on The Package, aka BOB 45.  It might also be a useful speedrun tactic, but that remains to be seen.

Halo: Reach BOB Video Guide - BOB 45 Ghost Method [HD] (YouTube) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fx8vxFMOqRs)

There's also a bunch of information on my personal BOB quest on HBO:

New BOB Video, and BOB Hunt Update! (HBO) (http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=1152994)

In other news, I'm sorry to say that I probably won't be posting here anymore.  If you need to get a hold of me, the best ways are probably to leave a comment on YouTube, or comment on the BOB Video Guide Thread on Waypoint (https://forums.halo.xbox.com/yaf_postst40695_The-Official-BOB-Video-Guide-Thread.aspx).  Thanks for all the help, and good luck in your future gaming explorations!
