If you use the scope on a Brute Shot, along the bottom of the overlay is a string of text. It's nearly impossible to read unless you have a very clear display (I couldn't really read it until I went VGA.) The code reads:
ODST BIOS A29.B179418.01
Here is an image I took last week before I could read the code:

This is just one of many cryptic numbers we've seen so far, and there's bound to be more.

My question would be, does it do the same in FF or H3 MM?

actually ints not just the brute shot... any weapon that doesnt have a scope on it already uses this sight. think of them as binoculars... Is the reaout different when your playing as the other squad members..

not to bring this back from the dead, but I think I did notice a different BIOS... I cant check right now, as the HD is in use and I am working on some other stuff atm.

I'm not sure whether this matches with the picture from above, but on Buck's screen you get "ODST BIOS A29.8179419.01"
It looks similar but I can't discern it.
(Easy way to read it is with a weapon without a built in scope. Zoom and look at something bright then turn on VISR. It whites out the background nicely so you can read easily)
I'm going to check back in when I find some additional ones.

It may well be a 'B' however I'm calling it as an 8 as it has an indentation on the left hand side.

Dutch's is the same except you interpreted one character as an 8 that others interpreted as a B.

I havent had time to look at them, All I noticed is that one of their BIOS' look a bit different... I dont have my xbox hooked up to the HD as the tv I have it on now is closer to this computer...

Apollo is correct... the 8 vs. B transcription issue has been a source of confusion (see my post (http://www.gruntspajamas.com/forum/index.php?topic=101.msg448#msg448) in Intel for an external example.) Don't feel bad!
If you get yourself a super-clear display (I use VGA on a widescreen flat-panel monitor in 1680x1050) then all of the in-game text is clearly readable. I also have a rather high-end digital camera handy, so I'll have to see if I can conjure up a clearly readable JPG that way.

I have posted five images (http://www.gruntspajamas.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=914) to the gallery showing the code as it appears in the Mombasa Streets level (as the Rookie, of course).
The three characters under consideration are the B in "BIOS", the first character after the first period ( B or 8 ). and the character before the second period ( an 8 ). That middle character is actually a tough call.
Now to check out Buck's.

I just checked Buck's viewfinder in both Campaign Mode (Tayari Plaza) and in Firefight Mode (Crater) and the code appears identical to the images I posted. I do not see the ODST BIOS A29.8179419.01 that Catfish reported. Will you please check again for us, Cat?

Yeah on checking back I think it was an 8/B rather than a 9. I did come under attack while transcribing it so I may have misread it as I paused on that one.
