Halo Reach General Discussion / Re: Halo Reach Radio Transmissions
« on: September 30, 2010, 04:07:27 »
Here's the one from Beachhead.

Quote from: Beachhead (Firefight)

[Unknown 1] I need somewhere I can send these people to.
[Unknown 2] You yelling in my ear isn't helping me find solutions any faster.

[Unknown 1] The evac stations in Manassas and New Ezhtergom are no longer responding. They haven't been for...
[Unknown 2] Hold on, I can't hear... The closest evac station to you is ?????, nevermind, I'm looking for another one.

[Unknown 2] Just, if you can, get your people into whatever vehicles you have over there, and...
[Unknown 1] What are you talkin' about? [Static] Whoa? What was...
[Unknown 2] That was a shockwave. You should move all of your people and just start heading West as fast as you can. I'll keep looking for...
[Unknown 1] This isn't a portable unit! I don't have any way to get back in contact with you.

[Unknown 2] Look, I'm sending this over the IMF. It's the number to my personal channel. Call me when you get everyone moving.
[Unknown 1] Oh God, thank you!
[Unknown 2] It's not over yet. I still have to find you a way off this rock.
[Unknown 1] Thank you, thank you!

Quote from: Holdout (Firefight)

[Trooper 1] So, uh...

[Trooper 2] Spit it out.
[Trooper 1] You uh, got a zombie plan?
[Trooper 2] Hell yeah.

[Trooper 1] Yeah? Maybe we can exchange notes.
[Trooper 2] Well uh I don't know man. Zombie plans are kind of a deeply personal thing to me.

[Trooper 1] Oh I understand, it's just, every time I say them out loud you know, get them out in the open it really helps reveal any flaws they might have.
[Trooper 2] That makes sense.

[Trooper 1] Ok.

[Trooper 2] Huh. So zombies can still hear and stuff, so that makes guns a weapon of last resort, right?
[Trooper 1] Yeah, yeah, guns all fire ammo too.

[Trooper 2] Exactly, so I was thinking that, what is a weapon that will keep them out of grabbing range and not run out of ammo? A spear.

[Trooper 1] Hold up, no, see that doesn't work at all really.
[Trooper 2] Huh?
[Trooper 1] A spear. I thought so too one time, but the possibility of getting it stuck in the brainpan of a walking corpse is very real.

[Trooper 2] Oh yeah, you're right. Man, I never thought about that. Well uh...

[Trooper 1] Ball peen hammer.
[Trooper 2] But, you'd have to get right up on top of a zombie.

[Trooper 1] Yeah, survival ain't about running around killing zombies man. A single shot(?) to the head would drop most zombies. It'll work on cheetahs too.
[Trooper 2] What the? There ain't cheetahs on reach. Anyways, we should probably be working the kinks out of our alien invasion plan first. Aliens are faster, smarter, and more tactically advanced than zombies; they're also here. Zombies, not so much.

[Trooper 1] When in doubt(?), you're reaching in a place no self-respecting marine would spend any amount of time.
[Trooper 2] Hey, we ain't in the Autumn yet, pal.

Quote from: Waterfront (Firefight)

[Unknown] Well cousins, the gig is finally up. As an indication of how serious this is, I'm broadcasting to you over an open unencrypted chanenl.

[Unknown] When I'm done, I'm going to loop it and split. There's no sense sticking around here yapping any longer than is necessary.

[Unknown] I saw a for sale sign go up in the front yard of your dad's place. My older brother didn't put it there; some out of towners might have.

[Unknown] What you've got to come home to now is nothing left and absolute destruction. These folks don't do things by half measures.

[Unknown] They aim to kill us all, burn our cities, and leave Reach as one more burnt out rock spinning in the darkness.

[Unknown] And they're gonna do it too. Nothing that you or me can do to stop them. They've done it plenty of times before.

[Unknown] They bloodied our noses at Harvest, at Madrigal, and Miridem, but this time it's gonna cost them. This time, they're gonna jerk back a bloody stump.

[Unknown] There's no two ways about this, it's gonna be a nightmare. The heavans are gonna burn, and the ground is gonna tremble beneath our feet.

[Unknown] They're gonna rain death and destruction down on our heads, but we're not gonna give up a single damn inch of dirt without a fight.

[Unknown] And they're gonna get their full measure of nightmare too. And when I see em, I'm gonna tell em, welcome to the nightmare you sons of bitches. Welcome to Reach.

Quote from: Outpost (Firefight)

[Joe] Charlie Hotel!
[Trooper(?) 2] For Pete's sake.
[Joe] What?
[Trooper 2] You really love the idea that you're deep in the cloak and dagger BS don't ya? This is not a clandestine meeting Joe. We're pulling everyone out because the planet is burning.

[Joe] Oh my God!
[Trooper 2] If it'll help keep your mind off it, you can tell me what you got.
[Joe] Halsey's new pet project; this new AI. It's a generational leap. I'm not even sure that's strong enough language.

[Trooper 2] So it's a pretty big deal huh? Any idea who the donor was?
[Joe] Just showed up one day. A couple of months after one of the annexes in the Omega wing was quarantined. Is that cloak and dagger enough for ya?
[Trooper 2] Ha ha.

[Joe] And typical of her work ethic, she's given it total access to everything. It can bilocate as well.
[Trooper 2] So what do you mean?
[Joe] It can be in multiple places at the same time. It can be multiplicative to use a more accurate term.

[Trooper 2] Like a Waldo? What use is-
[Joe] No no, as a duplicate. Capable of independent action. I've never seen it work in concert with itself, so I'm not sure if there's some kind of technical issue with that or...

[Trooper 2] So maybe a safety issue, or just that you never saw it happen?

[Joe] Technical issue. Something that would make doing it impossible. A safety issue wouldn't stop Halsey.
[Trooper 2] Yeah, I guess not. You know what, let's get the hell outta here.
[Joe] Isn't that what we were doing?
[Trooper 2] Sure, let's just keep moving.

Quote from: Glacier (Firefight)

[Joe] I swear, you're pathological about entering places through the HVAC system.
[Trooper(?) 2] Ha ha ha.

[Joe] There are still three friendlies registering in the security system.
[Trooper 2] Yeah? They got names?
[Joe] Kinda, Chump 1, Chump 2, and Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey PhD.
[Trooper 2] They got life signs, er...?
[Joe] They got a bunch of noise is what they got.

[Trooper 2] And?
[Joe] What we don't have is her exiting through a secure checkpoint.
[Trooper 2] So it may just be her badge, right?

[Joe] And if she's actually down there?
[Trooper 2] The doctor is refusing to leave her most recent pet project.
[Joe] Well I ain't carrying her narrow ass outta here.
[Trooper 2] Neither am I, either she's dead, and it ain't gonna matter, or she's alive and it's gonna interfere with the op.

[Joe] Yeah?
[Trooper 2] If she's alive, I say whoever finds her puts two in her head, dumps the body in a rigid container of thermite 'nades and pulls a pin. You couldn't even pull any recognizable teeth out of that mess.
[Joe] Harsh. We could just strap here to one of these Mike Foxtrot Delta Deltas.
[Trooper 2] Sounds like we got a plan.

Outpost and glacier are the same people.

In my case, the radios on Overlook and Corvette (both Firefight), just play static. I also have not been able to find radios on Zealot or Sword Base (both multiplayer). I also found two after rally point bravo in the package, but both were just static. Maybe there's a way to turn them on?

From February to the end of August, I was working full time at Walt Disney World. Now I'm back home. Anyways, back on topic.

I found the post I was looking for. It only has a few of the transmissions written out, but it's a start. http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=49670283

Quote from: CanuckErrant
Alright, so I was doing a little Arena on Countdown, crouching in a corner when I heard a radio talking about a Spartan team taking on a Wraith, bare-handed. I wound up finding a series of radio sets scattered through the matchmaking levels, and doing a transcript of the dialogue - it seems it's all in reference to a Spartan Red Team. I've tried to put them in a logical order, so have a read:

RADIO DIALOGUE

Spire [Mountain Road]

[R43] Gamma 1 Actual, this is Recon 43. We are in position, over.

[G1X] Recon 43, this is Gamma 1 Actual, gimme a radio check, over.

[R43] <fading in> Got eyes on 3 ghosts and 24 infantry. Typical scout detachment, please advise.

[G1X] Recon 43, do not engage. Sit tight and keep your eyes and ears open. I say again, gimme a radio check, over.
[R43] Gamma 1 Actual, we do not read you, say again, we do _not_ read you, over.
[G1X] Recon 43, you are not cleared to engage. I say again, you are not cleared to engage.

[G1X] Is there anyone else close to their grid? Dammit!

[R43] Looks like we're on our own, boys. This is their eyes and ears, we flatten these guys and disengage, tag your targets and get ready to go loud on my mark.
[G1X] Recon 43 this is Gamma 1 Actual. I say again, you are to stand down and withdraw immmediately, _do not engage_, over.

[R43] Fire, that's it, make 'em count! <gunfire>
[G1X] What do we have that we can send to support them? Dammit!

[R43] Pull back, move and shoot, move and shoot! Where the hell did all these hostiles come from?
[G1X] Tell Beta Romeo Actual that the company we are expecting is going to be arriving a little sooner than we anticipated. <fades out> (Recon 43), I say again, you are not cleared to engage! Stow your weapons, we are reading multiple inbound hostiles in your sector - you do _not_ want their attention, over!

[R43] Aw, damn! Tip of the spear, nothin', it's the whole god-forsaken fleet! Fire, fire, fire!
[G1X] Recon 43 respond. Check in. I say again, Recon 43, do you read me? Dammit. Get Red Team up and running, high alert. We're about to have company.
[loops]

Countdown

[G1] This is nuts. What in the hell are those autoturrets supposed to do against what they're bringin'? Over.[R] Divide their attention.

[R] Visual. Thirty-two Wraiths moving with two hundred sixty infantry at two hundred meters, closing on our lines due west at six kilometers per hour. Beta Red, hold position until I trigger primaries, then close on their front line as fast as you can.

[G1] Dammit, Red, I heard you Spartans were crazy. Gamma 5, radio check over.
[G5] 5 by 5, Gamma 1 Actual. Drone's holding station at over ten thousand feet. We got eyes on the whole damn thing.

[G1] Those Spartans ARE crazy, they're gonna get us killed.

[G5] Holy <static>! You're ain't gonna believe this! Beta Red just punched right up into the guts of that Covy column! Ever see a Spartan go hand to hand with a wraith? Unbelievable!
[G1] What are 11 Spartans gonna do against 30 thousand covenant? They're dead men.
[G5] Can't argue that, but those Spartans just bought us some time! We might just make it outta this alive! Get ready to move, over!

[G1] <unintelligible, fading in> Let's get the hell outta here.
[radio hiss, gunfire, explosions]

[R] Gamma 1 Actual, my team is in position. Get your people ready to move as soon as I give the signal, over.
[G1] With respect red, we might not be spartans, but this is our home. My men will die here if I ask them to.
[R] I don't doubt that, Gamma 1 Actual. Let's hope we won't need them to. Defensive perimeter online.

Boardwalk

[G1] <beep> Unknown station, this is Gamma One Actual, do you read, over?

[IF] Gamma One Actual, this is Iron Fist. We read you. What is the current status of Facility Alpha 331?
[G1] Facility Alpha 331 is overrun & offline, Defense grid at uniform delta ? is running at starvation levels. If you're looking for survivors, we've got a few.

[IF] Negative, Gamma, we are enroute to support Beta Red. Any word on his status?
[G1] None, over.

[IF] Acknowledged. There is a temp evac station 50 klicks west along your current vector at UD 0896 3987. I'll let them know you're coming.
[G1] Might want to tell them to pull up stakes. Beta Red may be tough as hell, but I have no idea how long they'll be able to tie up two armor divisions.

[IF] Say again, Gamma, over.
[G1] I said Beta Red may be tough as hell but - oh, my god!
[IF] Gamma 1 Actual, we lost you, say again, over.

[G1] Iron Fist, This is Gamma 1 Actual. 3 covenant cruisers just dropped out of cloak directly above us, holding at approximately twenty thousand feet travelling due east at approximately three hundred knots, 3-0-0 knots!

[IF] Visual confirm, Gamma 1. They just passed within 50 meters of our bird.

[IF] Go NOA, and punch it, there's still a chance we can pull Beta outta there.
[G1] <disbelief> Wait a minute, you're not thinking of heading *into* that mess, are you?

[IF] Godspeed, and see you on the other side Gamma. Out.
[loops]

Powerhouse [Dormitory]

[G5] Gamma 1, facility Alpha 412 is overrun, and I'm heading to your location with what's _left_ of Gamma 5, over.

[G1] Gamma 5? damn, it's good to hear you. How many you bringing? I thought Bnet said your house got knocked down.
[G5] Confirm. ODG 412 is slag. Lost all but 14 able bodies. Making our way over in 2 'Hogs and a radio van.

[G1] The more the merrier. Looks like we got makin's for a party. Some honest-to-god Spartans are ridin' up here with some boys from Third Mech as we speak.
[G5] Hate to break it to you, Gamma 1, but Covvies hit us with two divisions at A412. How many Spartans you got on approach?

[G1] Gamma 5, say again? That was two divisions, over?

[G5] That's affirmative. We put a dent in 'em, but that's about it. The only reason I ain't one of them on the line with you right now is HighCom decided to drop every available asset right on top of em, and us. Over.
[G1] Well, I hope you're bringing extra ammo, then, Gamma 5.
[G1] All we could carry and then some. ETA 25 mike, out.

Reflection [Back Hall]

[Maj] Alpha 20, This is UNSC Majestic, 2 mikes out from window. Once we're on station you'll have us for all of 3-0 seconds, over.

[A20] Acknowledged, Majestic. Stand by, we are waiting for the go/no go on the shoot. Uploading (?) telemetry on target.
[Maj] Telemetry recieved, on standby.

[A20] CENTCOM, OWA is 1 mike 3-0 seconds out from window, DD with five-zero one-hundred-sixty charlie mike, once on station we'll have 3-0 seconds of trigger time, over.

[CENTCOM] Alpha 20, this is CENTCOM. Beta Red is directly in the splash zone. Until we have visual confirmation of their status we are no go, over.
[A20] CENTCOM, those cruisers are burning birds out to 5-0 klicks, hell, they've hit civvy evac birds all the way out to CIS. Beta Red have gone above and beyond but there's no way out for them, they just bought us our window, now give me the go and I'll finish the job.

[CENTCOM] God help us. Go hot. Out.

[Maj] <fade in> (???) This is Majestic. Copy, Alpha, requesting go for shoot.
[A20] Affirmative, we are go on the shoot.
[Maj] Acknowledge, shoot is a go, out.

[Maj] 6 rounds, target number KT 2005.
[A20] Copy, Majestic, Target number KT 2005.

[Maj] Shot, over.
[A20] Shot, out.

[Maj] Splash, over.
[A20] Splash, out.

[Maj] Rounds complete, over.
[A20] Rounds complete, out.

[A20] <fade in> (???) to Majestic, all three target vehicles neutralized. I don't even want to guess what happened below.
[Maj] I copy, Alpha. end of mission, all three target vehicles neutralized. It's been fun, hope we get a chance to do it again. Out.
[A20] God willing. Out.
[loops]

BONEYARD [Junkyard]

[G1] Gamma 5, holy crap, Bunkman(?), d'you see that?
[G5] See it? Felt that in my damn chest. Whoever pulled that trigger wanted those sonsa-blam!-es dead.

[G1] Can't believe we just walked outta that crater. We gotta be the two luckiest bastards on this whole planet.
[G5] <Texas accent> Luck ain't got nothing to do with it, Jake.

[G1] Think anybody could have survived that?
[G5] You mean Beta Red? They say Spartans never die, but I don't think anything lived through that.

[G1] Damn, whole lotta real estate burning down there. Won't be much left once this is all said and done.
[G5] Here we are, hightailing it to anywhere else. Doesn't seem right.
[G1] Well, pretty soon won't _be_ anyplace else to run to. What's next, Earth?

[G5] Jake, anyone tell you you talk too damn much?
[G1] All the time. What the hell else was there to do on Reach besides chase pioneer girls?
[G5] Now there's nothing. Now there's nothing at all. Five out.

There is a radio on every multiplayer level and supposedly each one has a different transmission. Some over at Bnet compiled all of them into one post. I'll see if I can find a link.

4
No problem. Yeah, my host went offline for a few days. At first, I couldn't access the site (ftp, and cPanel access were fine and said there were no problems) but then everything went down. I guess it's back up now, because it works for me.

5
It might also be interesting to note, that despite what the map looks like, this is the only courtyard with actual stones in it. According to the map, the other two should have stone pillars, but don't. It could be that they made District 4 first, then copied and pasted this area of the map from it. Or maybe not...

6
Well, I managed to get the Super TriGlyph to show up somehow. This wasn't what I was trying to do, but I was in the area, and thought I'd pay the Magic Wall a visit. I had just gone through District 6, but did not stop or venture into the glyph area. After I got the Super Tri, I went back to District 6. All the glyphs along with "BELIEVE" were completely gone. This time, I went into the area, then back to the Magic Wall. It was blank. Then I went back to District 6. The glyphs were back, but "BELIEVE" was still gone. Oh, and going into the glyph area in District 6 while there were no visible glyphs still caused the doors in District 8 to disappear. Hmm...

7
On the Tayari Plaza level, you can find the Nomolos Refining banner. It's on the right hand side of the road coming up on the infamous District 6 glitch area.
I took a pic: http://www.bungie.net/Online/Halo3UserContentDetails.aspx?h3fileid=96785127
I've only been able to find it on this level, not in MS.

8
Initial tests (on normal, no skulls, with and without engineers present) have proven negative for any sort musical notes or otherwise. If you really want to hear the difference between shooting at the surrounding cement, and shooting at the stone, I can attach the sounds, but there really isn't that much of a difference. Shooting at the stone produces a slight "rattling" sound near the end, but I attribute that to just shooting at a different material.

Edit: On legendary (no skulls), there is no difference. The dramatic music seems to start and stop at random times while in the area. In fact, it seems to do that a lot no matter where you are. In other words, I don't believe there is a musical correlation between these areas. At least not one I can see.

Edit 2: Sound clips uploaded

By no means am I an expert, but what you are describing sounds like different permutations of scenery spawning. I know the most about Halo 1 because the mod tools have been released (and fully unlocked :)). The model tag of these barriers was probably compiled with several variations, each referencing the different images. In Halo 1, unless you specify a specific permutation to spawn, one will be chosen randomly. I never noticed that myself (I wasn't really paying attention), but I'll look out for it next time I play.

After doing some more research, I've noticed some interesting things happening. Starting on MS, I usually go to the nearest supply cache to grab a mongoose. Well, I went there first thing without turning on my VISR. When the door opened, I didn't see any glyphs on the wall. None at all, no even the faint traces that you can see with your VISR off. I turned my VISR on, and they all appeared like normal. When I turned it off, they were still visible. When I watched the replay, I could see the glyphs quite clearly, even before turning on my VISR. Odd...

Anyways, I then took a mongoose over to the disappearing door at District 8. Needless to say, it was still there. Then I went to the glyph area in District 6, went back, and the door was gone like usual. Then, I went back to District 5. Before I got there, I noticed the garbage can usually in front of the door wasn't there. When I got up to the door, it suddenly appeared.

This happened right after it loaded the District 5 BSP.

Just a little background on Halo maps, each "mission" is stored in a .map file. The level geometry itself is split into different BSPs (except for multiplayer maps) so you have a bunch of smaller areas that make up the whole level. This way, the whole level isn't loaded into memory at the same time as that would be a waste of memory. In previous halo games (Halo 1 comes to mind), only one BSP would ever be loaded at a time. At certain points in the level, you have to switch to the next BSP to keep going on in the level. This is done through trigger volumes and scripting. When a player enters the trigger volume, a script gets called that switches the BSP. In ODST, each district of MS is a separate BSP, and as far as I can tell, ODST can have two of these loaded at a time (I'm pretty sure). The loading of each of these occurs when you approach a security door to another district.

Anyways, when I got back to District 5, some of the Optican health terminals were missing. The only part left of them was the screen, which was just floating in space. I had seen this before, but I went back and got pics.

This has only ever happened (I think) after I've done gone to the area in District 6. This fact leads me to believe that going to that specific area is causing some sort of loading glitch. Still, it doesn't make much sense that going to this particular area, one filled with glyphs, would cause all these things to happen... Hmm...

Ok, I guess I need to start believe it is only a glitch, 'cause it is starting to look the only possible answer, why that door is opening.

It could be a glitch. If you look up, you'll notice some antennae that aren't attached to the roof, as well as some translucent grey boxes hanging off the side of the building instead of the overhangs that are present in the District 3 version.

On the other hand, there is rubble and debris present on the ground, something which the dark areas lack completely. Plus, there's the fact you have to go to a certain area to get it to work (it's not just looking at the first glyphs on the wall; if you actually go back in the general area, it will still work). An area that is filled with glyphs. Also, going into the area removes two doors, not just one. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe not.

I've done a bit of Halo and Halo 2 modding/editing, and that behavior isn't normal. In order to remove an object during the game, you'd have to make a script to remove that object specifically.
