Halo Reach General Discussion / Re: Winter Contingency Jackal
« on: January 27, 2011, 04:37:46 »
Thanks Imppa. I have always felt it's a little froggy, but I guess no one likes their own voice on tape.

I'd be happy to lend my golden pipes to any SGP endeavor.

I capped it and edited some different shots together.  I posted it on my new Youtube channel with a shout out to the SGP in the comments. The video doesn't continue that far, but I remember the headshot begging Jackal was still in his rooftop perch when I arrived to the window above the courtyard.

When you watch it, turn the volume down a bit.  My mic was hot and it's my first gameplay commentary.

Enjoy!

And Phantasm, tell the random guy I said Hi back.  :)

Yes when you first enter the outer building on that ring, before the courtyard fight you will hear footsteps on the corrugated metal roof.  If you look up and to the right immediately you will see a jackal jumping to the next roof behind a tank or something. This is before you get to the building with the room that triggers the courtyard fight.

Halo Reach General Discussion / Re: Halo Reach: Halsey's Journal
« on: January 08, 2011, 19:11:13 »
The word ubiquitous itself isn't anything big.  It's pairing with code was what got my attention. It's most likely that this was a coincidence.  However, a mind like mine can't help but wonder if this was a subtle way to get us to reconsider the Ubiquitous Code again here on the SGP.  If cracking the UC works on all the UNSC ships, does that mean it is a significant clue to all of Bungie's mysteries?

Probably not.  But tantalizing thought, no?

Halo Reach General Discussion / Re: Halo Reach: Halsey's Journal
« on: January 08, 2011, 01:20:33 »
So a crazy thing happened.  Though I originally purchased the base game (not heroic or legendary edition), a few days ago I was just about to beat it on Legendary Solo when I see the UPS truck pull up and the guy gets out with a huge box. He leaves and I open it to find the Legendary Edition!!!!  Whaaaat???  Then I remembered a while back entering some Mountain Dew codes on their website.  I never heard back, never got an email, nothing.  There was a tiny note in the box saying congratulations on winning the sweepstakes.

w00t!

So now I have Halsey's journal and I found something that may be a coincidence, but has me really excited.  Long ago I was cruising around with ColdGlider, Ark, and Apollo, and they decided to show me the tribute room/Halsey's lab. I saw the tributes to the Halo communities that were represented there and felt just a little sad that the SGP wasn't represented (I know we are newcomers in the grand scale).  I had and have no idea if we even registered on Bungie's radar.

Then, flipping through Halsey's journal I got to the October 15, 2521 entry and read:  "Since the ubiquitous code is identical on every ship and base, any enemy can study it, and despite highly regulated security, hack it."

That could be a coincidence, but to my knowledge the term "ubiquitous code" originated on this forum in response to a string of characters we kept seeing in ODST!!!  Is this a slight nod to our community?  Maybe, maybe not.  But it's got me grinning.

If it is, then they knew that the way to say hi to us was in a subtle detail.  :)

Halo Reach General Discussion / Winter Contingency Jackal
« on: January 05, 2011, 16:46:00 »
Man have I missed y'all.  This MBA program is kicking my butt.  I haven't even had time to play Reach.

This week though, I did finally nail that Jackal that you hear on the roof in the first Covey encounter on Winter Contingency.  I headshotted him with the mag on Heroic.  I watched it from several angles on the replay, but it looks like he only drops his needle rifle.  He had me thinking of the flood that drops the skull on H3.

It's the first clip in my fileshare.

Anyway, it might be worth trying to kill him on Legendary to see if he drops an extra datapad or something like that. IDK, maybe this has been done.  Sorry if you have already covered all this, I have a lot of catching up to do, and my next classes start on Jan 10.

I don't have a picture right now, but if you download the trial version of Marathon Durandal, and start it up you will see some doors with a very similar design on them to the shotcode.  I know earlier someone had said that perhaps Bungie was deliberately separating the brands from Halo and Marathon (hence the Marathon logo coming off of the sheild for easy difficulty).  If these shotcodes are from Durandal, maybe Bungie is still subtly keeping an obscure link in.

Halo Reach General Discussion / Re: Noble 6's Face!
« on: November 08, 2010, 19:57:19 »
Some claim to have seen Master Chief's face on the Halo 3 Beta:

Here it is lit from a charged plasma pistol complete with annoying shower sounds in the background.

These videos are why my Spartan in "Perchance To Dream" had a mustache, by the way. :)

The idea behind keeping the character faceless is so that anyone can project themselves onto the character.  This is supposed to be good, but often only results in the NPC's breaking character to refer to your qualities.  "This is one of those times when it pays to be the strong SILENT type."

It's like Snakeyes.  Is he really potent, but just showing amazing control?  Or is he not speaking because he doesn't have anything intelligent to say?  I think the worst version of this was MechAssault 2, where the gal keeps referring to you as "Mechwarrior" and you get the feeling the main character that is supposed to be the blank slate on which you write yourself, is just a hulking cruel mute incapable of the most rudimentary of human interaction.

Work-In-Progress (Halo: Reach) / Re: All Finds: "Exodus" (Mission 7)

The 7.77 item was the most amusing to me.  Moa burgers!  Also Coldglider found a shotcode on top of - I kid you not- a hamburger carton.

Work-In-Progress (Halo: Reach) / Henge found in the Sinoviet Building
« on: September 18, 2010, 14:40:14 »
I found this during the eerily silent portion of the New Alexandria mission in the Sinoviet building.  Notice the golden glyph in the top of the atrium.  There is a different one opposite.  Hubris makes me want to say this is a nod to our community, but it is probably more likely that this is part of the trend I have been noticing in mirroring level design from previous Halo titles. Like there is a ridge early on to be negotiated that is just like Halo CE where you climb around to enter the covey ship for the first time. And mission 7 feels distinctly ODST to me.

Looks like we will be haunted by henges for some time.

Thanks guys.  It's good to be back. :)

Does anyone have a barcode reader?

Here is a thread where we can weigh in with the eggs/clues and so forth we find in the manual.  I immediately noticed the all too familiar "shotcode" on the back cover.

Also the front cover, and the first page: Welcome to Noble Team bear strikingly long barcodes.

Gorgeous banner. Is that sigil a flaming grunt head?

Also, do we have an archive of the first Bungie Aerospace image to compare the green/blue one to?

And here are the Transliterations.  Note the leftside seems to be 9 x 13, but there may be preceding or trailing zeroes.  Likewise for the right side one which has a more symmetrical 6X6 layout.

Being a Team Vergil member, the square pattern made me sit up.

Attached find my renderings of the red blobs on the left and right.
