ODST General Discussion / Re: Sadie's story.
« on: September 02, 2013, 19:55:27 »
I'm going to have to look at SS again to find these numbers you are talking about. From what you provided, I agree that a timestamp is an unlikely possibility. It could be a location. The first two 'parts' of the numbers provided are either 00 or 03, both small enough to represent the number of a district. The other numbers could be parts of IDs for cameras, microphones, phone booths, etc.

You might not have seen Scat's edit, CIA, but your link seems to be messed up. I took a look at what Scat pulled out of it, but can't find any mention of "Super codes".

Image link was to an old section of the original site from 2009.  I found the image in my local archives, uploaded to gallery, and fixed the OP.  Sorry for that.

Thanks CG! Now to wildly theorize! :P

ODST General Discussion / Re: Anyone still hunting?

Someone who understands punchcards better than me is going to have to take a crack at it. Be careful though, with all the possibilities for the dots to encode bits, most methods are going to turn up gherjz.

Also CG, I've lost about four hours of my life to that website. I want them back.

ODST General Discussion / Re: How Bungie should have done it....

Has the text from the op disappeared for anyone else? All I see is the images and a few links. I'd love to discuss, but I can't really remember what was said.

Halo 4 General Discussion / Re: Debating the Merit of Halo 4

i may be mistaken, but I think it is actually SR1 09. SPartan 1 who is level 9. I had the same confusion for a bit.

On xbox, excuse errors.

Definitly over 100. That was just an outrageous example. I am rank ~18, and I am consistently in games with people rank 30-80

It's summer for me, so I'll be online quite a bit :) Can anyone explain to me how 343's matchmaking system makes any sense at all? I have been in a FFA Slayer match with a SR109 and someone in their first game. Hardly seems fair at all.

((In general, small simple actions like walking, chatting, or picking up small objects are free actions that don't need a roll and are fair game. I was going to roll for your radio being broken, but if that's the way you want it to be... In the future, I'll take care of Covenant patrols. Otherwise, you're good. And if you just want to post an action, that is perfectly fine too.))

Imppa: stealthily dash to cover [3]

Out of the smoke rising from around the crashed pod, a dark shape darts towards an open doorway across the street. Imppa stops to duck behind an abandoned car, and listens for the patrol. The growls and jabbering begin to slowly fade as the Covenant squad moves off into the distance. The pod is lodged into the front window of a nearby building. In the direction the patrol went is a pavilion in the middle of a traffic circle. There is an open doorway across the street. Behind Imppa, the street turns to the right, going to who knows where. More cars are scattered throughout the street.

Finished the campaign. I'm not going to lie, when I read 343's little message, I laughed at the line "Thanks for trusting us with the universe you love." By the end of it all, I'm about ready for the Chief to retire. I feel like the fact that nearly everything got changed, it should have been about the Muster Chef and his AI named Contra.

ODST Fan Fiction / Breachfall: Episode 1 - Rise from the Ashes
« on: June 17, 2013, 22:27:56 »
The city once knew no quiet. Daily bustle grew into a cacophony as the sleek alien ship suddenly slid into the sky, it's purple bulk contrasting the gray spindle of the space elevator. For a precious few seconds, the craft remained still. Then the Phantoms were released. Covenant troops made haste to make landfall and set out on their path of destruction, and citizens fled. Meanwhile, in the dark silence above the Earth, human ships fought valiantly against the alien invaders to protect their home. Beyond the sight of those on the planet, a retaliative strike from above was enacted to protect those below. As the shining pods screamed towards the ship above the city, hell broke loose. A great dark purple orb enveloped the craft, sending out a shockwave that scattered the drop pods. The enemy ship disappeared as scores of pods smashed into the abandoned streets below. The dust settles, and the city dares not whisper.

Breachfall
A Roll to Dodge Epic
Episode 1: Rise from the Ashes

You awake sometime later in darkness. Apart from a buzzing static from your radio, the surrounding city block is eerily quiet. You are undiscovered for now; a good thing too, as your pod door was ripped off in the crash. As far as you can tell, you were left uninjured, but you have not inspected your pod or equipment. Your squad-mates are nowhere to be found; locating them should be your first priority. Who are you, and what is your first action?

As a bit of a response to Kenji's thread and to assuage my own desire to try some creative writing, I will be taking the mantle of Game Master to lead you through a grand adventure. This will be in a different format than an RP; it will be a Roll to Dodge. Essentially, every action and reaction gets a dice roll on a six sided die, and the results determine your success. I will be using this system:
  • Utter Failure: In your failure, you make your situation worse
  • Failure: You accomplish nothing
  • Minor Success: You help your goals along, but do not complete them
  • Partial Success: You complete your goals, but only just so
  • Perfect Success: You accomplish all you could have hoped for, and look cool doing it
  • Overshot: You accomplish your goal in the most outlandish or resource intensive way available, possibly causing harm along the way
To make an action, simply state it in bold. For example: I shoot the Grunt or Fire my rocket launcher to detonate the plasma batteries that the group of Brutes are standing next to. If you provide multiple actions, I will only use the first one. You can jump in this game at any time. I will give this first turn 24 hours before I roll, but after that I will post a turn once all participating players have an action in. If you want to role-play, that is completely fine, but try to keep it mostly to dialogue and remember that I resolve actions, not you. OOC talk about the game is fine as well. Keep it clean and have fun!

Best place to put this. Check out the video, there is some good analysis, but mostly FACTION WARS!

Actually Scat, I haven't had that problem. Everything sounds pretty 'balanced' to me.

Ok, I caved in. I got it. And I have to say...

You have to be at ranke 21 to have an emblem background? What is wrong with you 343?!

Also, the only sound that is the same as any of the other games is the warthog's honk. Everything worse is different. I'm three campaign missions in and I'm still not used to it. I nearly cried  when I firsts drove a 'hog and the engine noise was different  :'(

Was that a shout out,
Or am I mistaken?
Glyphs are still cool
Even though I don't get them.

Drawing connections
That may not be real

These are a few of my favorite things

It would be very interesting if they mean third party developers. Kind of like how they outsourced the last Reach map dlc, Bungie might mean that there will be place that a player can go to created and maintained by another studio, with missions and weaponry exclusive to that area. It would make the game extremely vibrant if each planet was made from a unique design perspective, and the individual studios could delve into the atmosphere/culture. It would be the difference of "I looted this gun of an alien on Venus" to "this weapon is [cultural significance/history] to aliens on Venus."

Not sure how anybody would make money off of this, but it would be cool.
