Winter Contingency Jackal
« on: January 05, 2011, 16:46:00 »
Man have I missed y'all.  This MBA program is kicking my butt.  I haven't even had time to play Reach.

This week though, I did finally nail that Jackal that you hear on the roof in the first Covey encounter on Winter Contingency.  I headshotted him with the mag on Heroic.  I watched it from several angles on the replay, but it looks like he only drops his needle rifle.  He had me thinking of the flood that drops the skull on H3.

It's the first clip in my fileshare.

Anyway, it might be worth trying to kill him on Legendary to see if he drops an extra datapad or something like that. IDK, maybe this has been done.  Sorry if you have already covered all this, I have a lot of catching up to do, and my next classes start on Jan 10.

For a while I thought it was just one of those scripted things.  Then, when I was doing a speedrun, I got out and saw it jump across the roof.  I never thought about it dropping anything, but I have tried to kill it.

On legendary, it'll probably take a headshot to get it.  And you've only got that split second to run out, turn around, aim, and get it.

Where does it go?  Has anyone tried following it in theater mode?

If you know where to look beforehand, you can easily see it run, stop and disappear. Dropping aint very easy, though. :P

Good to see you again Moose! :)

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I thought it might be the same Jackal you see out of the window..just past that part.

I have seen pictures of peeps that killed him on the roof, WHILE IT WAS SMALL! it initially starts at 1/100 the size and after a trigger it grows. once the 1/100 size Jackal is killed it turns into a wire frame glitch looking thing.

Oh, I killed it on my second try! Not on heroic, but still. And I think it is supposed to be the one that you see out the overlook window.

You mean the one that you see out the window, that just asks for a headshot?

What gives you that impression? Did the jackal on Overlook not appear?

The thing that trips your motion tracker is a Skirmisher/Jackal.

Yes when you first enter the outer building on that ring, before the courtyard fight you will hear footsteps on the corrugated metal roof.  If you look up and to the right immediately you will see a jackal jumping to the next roof behind a tank or something. This is before you get to the building with the room that triggers the courtyard fight.

I know that, I've seen it a time or two.  My question was, how do we know that the Skirmisher (and yes, I'm pretty sure it's a Skirmisher.  I think I recall seeing the feathery head) that trips your motion tracker is the same one that you see outside the window when you first fight Covie forces?

Story-wise, maybe. But in  reality, the skirmisher that is seen running on the roof dissappears. I've seen it happen.

I think it's implied.

Although 99% halo players already know of what the origin of the enemy above you, for the few that don't, It would be cool to figure out what that enemy was. Therefore, the same. And Imppa is right, although I thought it just shrinks to a small size?
I feel it

I thought that Night had found some kind of correlation between the two that proved them to be the same.  Such as, killing the one you aren't supposed to kill, then not seeing the one outside the window at the courtyard fight.  I think I misinterpreted, then.

I capped it and edited some different shots together.  I posted it on my new Youtube channel with a shout out to the SGP in the comments. The video doesn't continue that far, but I remember the headshot begging Jackal was still in his rooftop perch when I arrived to the window above the courtyard.

When you watch it, turn the volume down a bit.  My mic was hot and it's my first gameplay commentary.

Enjoy!

And Phantasm, tell the random guy I said Hi back.  :)

Nice.

I plan on uploading a video or two sometime soon, myself.  It probably won't be me popping that jackal in the head on Legendary, but we've got no shortage of prospective videos.

Do we know if the needle rifle is the phenomenal object? It could be like the scarab gun. Although I honestly think it would be harder to get. See if you can get him to drop the gun somewhere you can reach it.
