Armor abilities and you.
« on: April 19, 2011, 22:39:58 »
I am kind of surprised no one has brought this up.

I am sure some of you have seen that video where some guy was able to hijack a ....what ever its called. He used Armor lock to pass over the kill barrier. This made me think, you can REACH places or do something that you wouldn't normally be able to do depending on what AA you have equipped.

I cant clear this jump - Sprint
I cant get up that high - Jetpack
I cant get on that ship with out falling - Armor lock

It might be a good idea to notate where AA's are and if there are areas that can be found while using them.

UPDATED: (a little clearer)

Armor Lock -

www.igameanswers.com/halo_reach/halo-reach-glitch-how-to-fly-a-seraph-no-mods.html

To do this you need AL...this can NOT be done unless you have AL..

Now think about other instances on where this same application can be used.

Armor lock allows the user to 'Sticky' them self to any surface, you can literally AL on top of a moving Banshee or any ship for that matter. This can allow us to travel into areas that wouldn't be normally accessible.

Jet packing -

I believe I showed this to Kenji..not sure who else. On New Alexandria ( I think ) where you first get the jet pack, there are several areas that you can access that without it you wouldn't normally. Places like the death hallway: named that because waling half way down kills you. After getting to the last section of the chapter there is a way to nearly head all the way back to where you first enter the hornets. Heading this way will allow you to meet a lone trooper.

Also using the jet pack allows us to REACH on of the switches during the Package which grantees access to the tribute room.

Sprinting -

It the default ability but with it you can run and jump further (if running). Without it you wouldn't be able to run down that BOB at the start of the first mission.

Hologram -

This would be useful to locate invisible walkways, invisible pitfalls and the like. I cant really think of a time I used it...

Bubble shield -

I cant see any use for this.

Cloaking -

I cant see any use for this.

Player Combos!

jet packing stacking. REACH no heights by standing on a player with a jet pack to further your REACH, Jump, jet jump jet, jump jet.....

Now mapping out where and when AA's are accessible might clue us in on if there is a Secret/ switch/ glitch/ exploit.

I don't get it.

I second that. I would think that the armor abilities are pretty self explanatory, but it would behoove us to include something about them. If we really want to make a fully comprehensive guide, we ought to include EVERYTHING, from the ground up. And while we're at it, add in different exploitations and glitches that can be accomplished with the different AAs.

Sorry, I was doing two things at once and I wanted to get my thought out before I forgot.
I'm not talking about what AAs are used for, I am talking about their other applications.  I will get back to this tomorrow.

Oi, don't misuse your moderator rights 'Nigma!

While I don't see any real point to make a full-sized guide about this (since the sprint and  jet pack are a bit obvious (duh)), but the armor lock stuff should be added to the Out of Maps- guide.
But I don't completely disagree with you. There might be some idea in this way of thinking, where the Armor Abilities are the key to the secretz. This might be noted [somewhere].

I get it, Enigma.  But I am coming into this late, after your updates and flagrant abuse of mod privileges.

Thanks for noting that AL will ALlow you (har har) to stick to moving vehicles.  That's pure awesomeness.

Will you please elaborate on the BOB you have to run down on the first mission?  Is it before Rally Point Alpha?

Thank god you understand.

The BOB I was talking about is the very first one that hold the data pad on Legendary. (I thought it was a BOB) If you walked towards him it would be imposable to get him even with well timed shots

Roger, that.  The technical definition of a BOB is still debatable, but I think so far the community considers this not to be.  If he awards you the BOB medal, though- he is definitely one.

Well, CG, I think the BoB challenges that Bungie throws out may be an even better deciding factor for BoBs than the medals.  After all, don't they show the Boosting Banshees  to be BoBs when the medals don't?

The SpecOps Elite appears at the beginning of EVERY Legendary Winter Contingency run.  If it was a BoB, and only one BoB spawns per level, wouldn't that mean that you could never find a golden ranger on Legendary?

As for not understanding, 'Nigma's original post was... less comprehensible... than it is now.  He edited it and clarified, and his "misuse of mod powers" was deleting the posts that several people had made professing their confusion.  As he had improved upon his post, he probably felt that the repeated "I don't know what you mean" posts were unnecessary.  That is the only use of mod powers that I am aware of, other than my own grammatical refinement to another post.

While these armor abilities are, for the most part, self-explanatory, there are several improvised techniques that one can use.  For example, jetpacking on top of a friend, who has another jetpack.  Both of them jump and activate their jetpacks, the one on top slightly before the one on the bottom.  The friend on the bottom will act as a platform for the higher player to stand on, while refilling his/her jetpack partially.  The higher starting point, extra jetpack power, and double jump will allow access to heights not attainable otherwise.

Uses such as these are not always obvious, and having a list of them will be helpful to anyone who may need them.

Some less obvious uses can merely be helpful in gameplay, too.  How close do you have to be to a Covie before they notice you while you're using active camo?  How much damage will a Deployable Shield absorb before it fails?

Good call FAN, there isn't really a point keeping nonsense reply's unless they further the OP and they didn't.

I didn't post this in GP.

THIS is what I am talking about! with this you open up whole new ways to play.

If I am under a vehicle can I use my jetpack?

What happens when I AL on a barrel rolling banshee?

Do I get higher if I jump before jetpacking?

What happens when I AL on a friends head during campaign?

Can I AL on a enemies head? what happens?

So how well do any of us know the AA's, what kind of tricks can we pull off, how can we affect game play?

Imagine using AL on another player during LONE WOLF and Launching your partner all the way pass the kill barrier and taking a legit photo with the MC statue!

Know what the AA's are capable of would open more doors for our investigations.

That, Enigma, should have been your OP.

I believe that if you AL on a teammate's head, it kills them. I was  afk in a coop game, and when I came back I found that I had been betrayed by Scat. He said that he ALed, but I don't think we tried to replicate it. Shouldn't be too hard to check.

Although, on LW, one could AL on a barrel or something, while a friend shot it with all the ordinance he or she possessed. It just might work.

Holy crap. Do you think the AL'd guy will float if we take off the barrel?

All current observations support the theory that the armorlocked player would stick to the barrel. AL sticks to vehicles, does it not?
