Halo Reach controller released
« on: July 22, 2010, 18:37:53 »
IGN has released a picture of the controller which can be seen here

Nevermind, it was Xbox.com who released it. Look here.

Do you think it has secrets on it? Maybe anything referring the ARG? I sure do. Lets see if we can get these numbers.

The ODST one was SUPPOSED to have...but have we found anything?
Anyway, hopefully this wont be such a plunder.

Some numbers revealed in the unboxing video:

REACH
REQ: //65|59_234|97///

That can be seen on the console, where above it it says
"PROPERTY OF UNSC
SECTION 1"

And can also be seen on the controller.

On the right side of the controller, it says

"PROPERTY OF UNSC

Serial Number: 7270-03-108 ( <- might be wrong, and cant read the rest)
Type M70---------------------------------------------"

And in the lower right area of the controller you can see

"E1|13|E2|25"

And in the left corner you can see

"J2|11|L8|14"

Screenshots of said video

The last two are of the console
ODST is all about switches, isn't it?

Cool :^)
Hmmmmm...... I wonder
A frog once said if you read this you'll die but how would he know you'll die. He's a frog and frogs can't talk. Who would listen to this frog. So to read this he just wasted your life for a few minutes meaning you are closer to dying anyway so the frog was telling the truth but frogs can't talk?

Sorry for the cryptic update below, and thanks to Enigma for passing it along.  Long story short:  I made the discovery away from a conventional computer and had to laboriously type an email without a keyboard or much time to explain.

Anyhow... back at my laptop now and I can elucidate.

I have a Reach controller, which I bought at a GameStop from a man named "Bob" (more about Bob later).  Looking at the text prefixed "REQ://" made it almost obvious that it was a thinly veiled IP address.  Unfortunately, by itself, all you get is the standard Bungie site.  (Not that we don't love your site, Bungie!)

http://65.59.234.97/

So the question now is:  does the rest of the text on the controller provide a means to complete the URL?

Here are a few attempts that failed:
http://65.59.234.97/J2/11/L8/14/E1/14/E2/25
http://65.59.234.97/J2.11.L8.14.E1.14.E2.25
http://65.59.234.97/J211L814E114E225
http://65.59.234.97/E114E225J211L814

This is based on the following text from the controller (I need to double-check... as fate would have it I am not with the controller now):
J2|11|L8|14|E1|14|E2|25

Anyone else have any ideas on how to decode this stuff?  So far I'm getting Gherjszed.

Quote
J2|11|L8|14|E1|14|E2|25

Note:
There are 7 lines in there, just like there was in SIs Bnet account. :P

Let's see: There are 7 different pairs of numbers (14 showing up twice), 8 pairs in total. In every two pairs, there is a letter, those letters being J, L and E (E twice).
If you take out the letters, you get: 2 11 8 14 1 14 2 25, or 211814114225. It doesn't translate into anything though.
What if we read those letters as dots, and use that as a IP? Sadly, 211.814.114.225 is a dead end. And don't mind trying it backards, 'cause I already did.
Maybe they're coordinates? Someone check that, 'cause I don't know how to. :S
Derp...here ends my creativity. :P

And in the left corner you can see

"J2|11|L8|14"

If you convert the letters into numbers, like A=1, B=2...J=10

you would come up with 102.11.128.14....which IS another IP address..

I have the console pre-ordered, and I have a handly 15.1 Mpx Canon camera, so I'll have so good pictures up then.
As far as the code, it reminds me of the square we made (like the battleship game), but the 11 and 25 is throwing it off.

If you were to extend the hexadecimal scheme to range from 0-L instead of 0-F you'd have a base-22 system.  You'd also have a number way too large to be an IP address.  J2 | 11 | L8 | 14  =>  420 | 23 | 470 | 26

If this were Base-22, but little endian we'd get:
63 | 23 | 197 | 89
This is IP friendly, but I'm not getting a response from 63.23.197.89
The info on this IP is here: http://ws.arin.net/whois/?queryinput=63.23.197.89

In many programming languages, the pipe character represents a binary OR operation.  I've shied away from using it that way since it was only used as a separator character (along with the underscore) in the text that translated to Bungie's IP address.

Another way to look at J2|11|L8|14:
J+2 = L
1+1 =2
L+8 = T
1+4= 5
Decoded: L2T5
In "Leet Speak" this might be "LRTS"

E1|14|E2|25 would yield "F5G7" or "FSGT" in Leet.

Gherjsz wins again, I think... but these examples are provided in case someone can take them in a more fruitful direction.

While looking up bungies IP on this site,

http://whois.domaintools.com/bungie.net

If you scroll to the bottom you can see an IP: 65.59.234.117
Notice the 117. Could this be an egg? I think so. If you try to go to it you get a page error.

But i googled that IP and got here:

http://www.robtex.com/dns/www.bungie.net.html

This site shows some of the secrets of b.net. It shows things like
http://admin.bungie.net/
and http://seventhcolumn.bungie.net/

But what interests me the most is this:

http://www.bungie.net/Projects/whvidldshbyjsdo/default.aspx

You can see /Projects/whvidldshbyjsdo/default.aspx on this site if you scroll down.
Is this some sort of code? You get this page if you try to go to it. So why was this ever on Bungie.net? That is the question.
